7XL , run 5s2p or 4s3p pack?
Hi, i am still deciding over the two options. I can run either 5series A123 M1 cells with 4.6Ah capacity, OR a 4series pack with 6.9Ah capacity?
I know 4s will still have lots of power, what do you guys think? BTW, these Quarks are kickass. Running very low speed, trying to stop the rotor impossible, there is like an insane amount of torque at like 200rpm, LOL, there is absolutely NO cogging. |
Hi,
i think 5s2p is ok, 4s3p and 7XL will be good for runtime. here is my M1 5s2p with 9XL CRT truck video , top speed more 70Km used speed gun testing. http://yungshen.myweb.hinet.net/ecrtm1.wmv hope you like. |
4s3p would be really good for runtimes, fast to, I think 5s is maybe too hot.
|
I ran 6S1P M1's at the track last weekend and they performed well. Personally, I would suggest a 6S2P setup rather than a 4S3P setup.

Yah, thats just it.
Mike said 5s2p pack would be killer, he then said 6s2p would be 'sick' is word he used. LOL I really don't know, FROM my calculations i figured the same as BrianG that 6s would be a little more powerful than 5s LiPo pack. But, from what i've seen, 5s LiPo is 'almost' overkill for the 7XL. I don't know!? |

I'd go for the 5s2p A123. It's a more efficient setup assuming proper gearing is used. I'll be using 5s2p A123 with my 7XL in my E-Revo :).

COOL, Metalman. What controller will you be using with that, a Quark or a BK?
I can't wait to get my car running, as it costs me $450 dollars for a Quark 125B, a 540C-7XL, a UBEC, and 20,22T pinions. Cheers |
Mamba Max :). It should be here soon after the capacitors are repaired (the hit a parked car when the MM was ejected from one of my cars). I wouldn't be too surprised if I have to use a fan on the MM, but I've got an extra :).

KK, i don't understand this. Is everyone using Mamba Max that says 100amps, 3s LiPo? WTF, did they under rate the thing just to get extreme durability/reliability? How much can those things handle? Do they get hot?
|
It's rated at 3s Lipo because the BEC can't handle more than that without cutting out because of overheating. With an external BEC Castle says it can handle 14 NiMh cells no problem, but this voids the warranty. So far, it has been pushed to 6s A123 and 5s Lipo, so it can handle quite a bit more than it's rated for :027:.

well, $#*! !!! I would prob have got the Mamba MAX instead of the Quark.
Well, i shouldn't say that, the Quark is one heck of a nice controller in a lot of ways. It's the lowest price for its current rating at 125 Amps. And the super smoooooothness, i love it. So, maybe i wouldn't buy it. ;) |
I can't find A123 cells anywhere? Metal, you are going 5s on a 7xl?

http://www.a123racing.com/ At A123Racing website you can buy either loose cells, and you can buy the pre-assembled packs of which you can get the Turbo versions; which is a variable voltage circuit (very snazzy!) you can adjust the voltage and the voltage will be stable under load (i think it has no Volt droop). Or you can build your own pack and attach a balancing cable for the chargers they sell. I however do not use a balance cable (not near as critical as Li-Po), i use a BK Precision lab power supply to charge my 5s2p pack in 25 minutes. It's great, they stay room temp while charging too. One of the best things about the A123 M1 cells is that they seem to deliver 100% right until they dump, its very abrupt! |
