Diff Questions
 
OK today i took apart my t-maxx diffs to familiar my self with the parts because i will be building a set of maximizer diffs in combo bulks. When i took apart the diffs, the plastic case inside held a grease like substance, this was also (the grease) inside the diff cups where the other gears where held.

Now for my maximizer (E-maxx project) combo rebuild i have a few questions. 1.) first off what kind of grease,silicone,oil, etc.. should i put in the case of the diff(place where diff is and pinion). 2.) second what kind of grease,silicone,oil, etc.. should i put in with the gears in the diff cup. 3.) Are there any additional parts i need to build the maximizer diff with combo bulks besides combo bulks, original t-maxx diff gear with pinion and case, and the maximizer cups with modified traxxas gear(from RC monster). TO HELP with your replies i have some additional info (-I will be running a 7XL, slipperiential, steel CVDS, and i will be racing on the street at my local hobby shop) Thanks alot :027:

I use Associated Black Grease...That on the ring gear and in the diff cup should be good...Also, I know I have recommended it before, but I would recommend the 3.3 knuckles and sliders for less rotating mass and it will be cheaper as well...

i would do that and i still might but the way i look at it is for 20 bucks more i can have steel ones (because the plastic CVDS A.K.A sliders are 12 per on which is 48$ and the tsais ones for 70 and they work pretty sure but that might change). Also does that sound like it will be everything i need to complete the new bulk and diff. Also what is the consistency of the black grease is it thicker or thinner than the traxxas grease the stockers come with.

I think the AE grease is slighter thicker, but I'm not sure...Sliders should be alot cheaper than $50 on Ebay. To be honest, the sliders will be easier on the drive train so your gears will last longer.

i was talking brand new but yeah if i went ebay i could get then cheap. I did think of this but i forgot about it i while a go but now that i rember i might just do that but do you think my diffs will actually hold if i did not go with the sliders, because the maximizers are pretty strong. what do you think.

I just think it will be easier on the drivetrain for one thing...Less rotating mass for 2...And 3, I have heard of alot of broken CVD's with the 7XL and serious power...If I went with CVD's, I wouldn't skimp. UE all the way, or MIP at the least...However UE doesn't make 3.3 CVD's...I went with CVD's on my Revo and didn't like them...I changed back to sliders very soon after...Besides that, the sliders allow the use of the RD Racing 8mm axle kit and there knuckles...$200, I know, but WELL worth it...

i will lose the bling of (of the CVDS) but i will get over it i will change my list to accommodate these it seems more economically anyway i will save Cash and spare the drive train.

when i pack the diffs do i put a little black grease on the gears and diff or do i pack the diff cup totally and the diff case. basically do i pack the items in grease or do i just put some grease on the gears but not totaly cover everything. thanks

well if you put a light layer on them it will work fine, but if you pack them real good..then it will give you less of a diff action and closer to a spool feel, without it being a spool.....I ran mine like that for years...before I went to UE 8 spyders

i would do it half way full of grease
