1/10th ST brushless setup
Well guys, I just bought back my old HPI RS4 MT. This was a very fun truck that I used to dragrace my buddies with. I was running a LRP Sphere/Neo 3 Star combo then. I am going to pull that system out and put it in my TC4, but I was wondering what I should get to go back in this thing.
I've pretty much made up my mind on the Mamba Max ESC, but I'm still deciding on motors. I am trying to choose between the Mamba 5700 or the Lehner 5300. I will usually power it with 6 or 7 cell packs, but I'm also gonna get a couple 2 and 3 cell Lipo's for when I need a little more. I used to have a Mtronik's Genesis Pro ESC powering a Lehner 5300 in my Stampede on 8 cells and I loved that power. Thats what I'm looking for again. Do you guys think I should try the new Mamba Max 5700 motor, or just stick with the Lehner 5300 since I had such good luck with it before. Or do you guys know of any other motors that would suit me better then the one's I have mentioned. BTW, this truck will not see too much abuse. It will mainly be used to tear up parking lots and do a bunch of drag racing. It was never beat when I had it before but I'm still looking for more power. |
I'd go with the motor you already have first and use that on the MM ESC.
|
Ok cool. I was planning on using the MM ESC with any motor I decide anyway. The reason I chose it is because I already have a mambified 18T and I have the Castle Link. I love the tuning options with it, but I just didn't know which motor to get.
How does the Lehner 5300 or the Mamba 5700 compare to some of the other motors out there? |
Come on guys, help me out. I'm getting ready to place an order for this thing. I know I'm getting the Mamba Max ESC, but which motor would be better for my application? Lehner 5300 or Mamba 5700?
I know the Lehner screams, but I haven't tried and of the 540 Mamba's yet. I'm sure they strong as crap too, but I just don't know what to get. |
I've used the feigao 8s and its a strong motor also..

Well for the money of the mamba motor. You could get it and try it out with
the order of the esc. Just a suggestion. |
Personally, I would go with a Neu 1509.
|
If you are going with the Mamba maxx Id pass on the Neu motors. Neu is 4 pole, Make sure you get a 2 pole motor. the 4 pole motors dont run very smooth on the Mamba Maxx.
How many cells are you going to be running? |
I like my 5700 very much! A nice powerfull motor on 2S, and on 3S it's plain mad!
Hard to beat for the price. |
There really is not going to be much of a difference between a lehner 5300 and a mamba 5700. The 5300 actually has about 5600 kv anyway because the lehner motors are rated at a 10% load. If you already have the lehner motor, there's no need to buy a heavier mamba motor that won't perform any differently.
|
Well guys, I just ordered the Mamba Max ESC. I'm still trying to decide on a motor though. I'm debating on the Mamba Max 5700, the Lehner 5300, the Lehner 4200 or even one of the Fiegao 380C motors. From what I've heard they are awesome in a 1/10th truck and they spool up so much quicker then the comparable 540's do. What do you guys think?
Remember, I want it to run alright on 6 cell packs but I also want it to handle 3 cell Lipo's. |
Well, since you have the Lehner already, start with that and see how you like it, how cool it runs, etc. Then you'll have an idea of what you're looking for if it doesn't perform like you want.
If you want a motor that will run on 3s, I would definitely not go higher than 5700 kv, or the total rpms will be really high. You'd probably be happy with a motor with a kv around 4500-5000 and just gear up a little to compensate, and this will keep total rpms at a decent level when using 3s. |
I don't have a Lehner 5300 right now. I did have one in the past though and it was awesome. I was running it in my modified Stampede on 8 cell's and it was rediculous. That's why I'm highly considering it right now.
|
Oh, I thought you still had it. My bad.
If you were happy with the 5300, then I'd get it again. Might run a little hot on 3s though since that is almost 59krpm. But it should be perfect on 6 good cells. |
Sorry for responding this late;
The 5300 is too much for the rs4MT it will wreck the belts in no-time. the 5700 is a tad less powerfull and might be just right for the rs4. If you want to go the lehner route, consider using the 4200 instead. But for the price and the preformance, nothing beats a 5700. You won't be dissapointed. And if you think it moves too slow, hook up 3S.. :p |
