Body Painting

Looking for some input on painting a body for an E-maxx. It would be new and it would be a Proline body.

What do I need, what paint works best, etc.

Body Painting -

Hey Tom - The first body is usually the hardest. First thing - make sure the body is clean ( inside ) no fingerprints etc. Then make sure the masks you have for the windows is on and sealed around the edges. Use a hair dryer to heat up the masks so they stick around the edges better if you wish. Pick a simple design for the first - One color is even ok if you wish - I would rather have a single color come out perfect - rather than a couple of colors that bleed into each other or under the window masks. Thats my opinion though. You must use a paint designed for lexan - This type of paint ( I use pactra - These type of paints are found in hobby stores ) is flexible when dry as not to crack and chip when blasting the body into oblivion......Just take your time and experiment. If you want to use several colors and dont have an airbrush - you can use tape to seperate the colors. The blue painters tape from home depot works well. Spray the first coat on lightly. Too much and it will bleed and that will suck hard. If you wish to speed up the process - After the first coat - use a hairdryer to dry in between coats.

Thanks

Where else can I get the paint cause you know there's not many options for us for LHS, lol...

Well - there is a hobby store in monroe. Hometown Hobbies - They have an assortment of paints to choose from. There must be one over the river also. But wherever you get the paint from - Make sure its for Lexan - or boy will you have problems....

I prefer Parma Paints. They are water based paints so they are easy to clean up and you dont have to worry about thinning them. They even make an adapter you can put on the paint bottle to hookup directly to the airbrush. The paint masks that seem to work best are the XXX Main masks. Although all the great painters I talk to cut their own masks out on the body by using liquid maks.

Well, welcome back then - How did you like the other paintjob you did for the maxx - did you get it done yet?- I know you wanted to sell the first one on ebay right?

MaxxFusion 04.27.2005 09:16 AM

Well I really like my first truck paint job. The F350. Blue with chrome accents.

The Orange F350 is going on ebay and so is the Revo Crowd Pleazer. It looks ok but I am not real empressed with the way the colors go together on it.

Now the F650 I am doing now is midnight blue and will have florescent yellow flames. I got a little bleeding but will have to clean them up.

Yea - I think that it would be awesome to get some kinda chart or the like that had paint combinations on it. Thats the hardest part when choosing colors. Some just dont go with others - even though they " look good in your mind".
