New setup 8xl and 9920

I had a few problems but I got past those. To make things simple I start without an external BEC. I had it solder for it, but just didn't program it with the external BEC hooked up.

I got everything working with 7-cells but have these problems:

1. When I pull the black jumper, and hook up the External BEC the motor doesn't respond, all other servos do (do I have to re-program the speed controller?)

2. I have forward/reverse, no brakes!! How can I get the brakes to work, in the process I fried my receiver, so I bought a new Futaba Magnum 3PM receiver/transmitter. I'm assuming this transmitter is fine.

3. I'm used to the Novak system which has an on/off switch, I notice when I plug in the 2 7-cells, that is will spark. Do I need to worry about this?

Thanks,
Nick

1. 2. You will need to reprogram the ESC. Check here for instructions. Also be sure to try reversing the throttle channel, as that could cause the ESC to not be programmed properly.
3. That's normal. It does that because the capacitors charge up very fast.

BTW, where is Seaside?

Thanks, I will try to find how to reverse the throttle channel, and will reprogram after connecting the external BEC.

Seaside is next to Monterey, 2 hours south of San Fran.

I was able to get it working with the external BEC, and it appears I have breaks, but hard to use. If I let off the throttle, and move the throttle forward to brake, if I hold it like 2 seconds, it will start in reverse.

Can I increase some delay to allow me to use the break without going to reverse so quickly.
