rosin core solder
hey im going to be making a trip to radio shack soon and im just wondering what kinda solder i should get to help me. or what all should i get there that would help me solder (flux, solder, etc)
thanks guys |
Try get lead free solder if you can. WBT silver solder is what I use.
The flux I use is called honey flux over here. Not sure what its official name is, but it looks and runs very much like honey. It's for soldering to alu, but makes other jobs very easy too (nickle, tin, stainless, etc.). Also, make sure you've got solder tips for all types of jobs you'll be doing. Thick tips for heavy gauge wire and SubC cell terminals. Thinner tips for servo leads, antenna cable, electronic circuits, etc. |
I use deans rosin core solder ; best ive used yet.
|
well can i get any of that at radio shak do you know?
thanks |
RadioShack does have rosin-core solder. They also have a little of the lead-free stuff too. They do not have the "deans" specific solder though. Their website lists all the solder options they have - just do a search.

I use radio shack 60/40 rosincore and have never had troubles with it, I'm using the same spool i bought when i was into slot cars in the nineties
|
well i know i can search lol... just dont know what to search for uk? i have no idea aboutany of this... thats why i asked here. to see what other people like.

Silver solder is best, but for cheapies like me, 60/40 rosin core works great
|
I agree... 2-5% silver solder is good but there's nothing wrong with standard 60/40.
I'll bet that all the motors, esc, etc that we buy are built from the factory with standard solder, not the silver content stuff. I was just thinking that... so why try to out-do them? Anyone think the Castle, Novak use fancy solder? |
Just use the 60/40 radio shack special and you'll be fine.don't expect to find aluminum flux there though..I asked and all I got Bambi in the headlights look.

BTW, It's not that Radio Shack is great.... but they are everywhere, and their solder is pretty good. Seriously, the only solder I've used that sucks was from the home improvement center. (And it was rosin core 60/40 too... ) |
