bl mt2 18ss
k i think im settled lol i want to do a bl mt2 18ss, my first ever real rc was right when the mt came out i had one and loved it.. a few years later i got a revo so i gave the mt to my very good friend and he has moved away and after seeing a few bl mt vids im convinced:018:
so im going to get the 18ss kit... any motor recomemndations? im thinking a 7 or 8l.. to go with 12 cells, mayby 13 idk but im pretty shure 12.. i want to hit atleast 55 mph and 12-15 min runtimes are fine with me, but 12-15 being hammering it the whole way everywhere.. and atleast 20 in the general running area lol any recomendations on gearing? where to start? and what spur? i will use the stock tires till they wear out, them get some speed hawgs, and road rages, but nothing really big, this will be more of a onroad truck to drift around, thats the reason for speed hawgs i think:005: and just have fun with because i really dont go offraod much, when i do i have a flm amamba pede that is bullet proof to smash up lol:004: thanks, and sorry for the long post, and thanks brian g, and metal man for giving me new ideas:027: |
I know MetalMan runs an 8L and a MM ESC in his 18SS. However, his setup gets pretty hot (both ESC and motor).
I'd put an XL motor in there...it would be alot less restrictive to gearing. |
Mine's running hot because it's overgeared :). Actually, the MM ESC runs hot, the motor runs at something like 140. The pinion gear I am using just happened to be the only one I had laying around (20t) :D.
XL... Too much IMO. The L is already more than enough. A lot of guys who do the MT2 conversion use S motors. |
well then how and i going to get my gearing to hit 55????? and what if there was a fan on the mm????and maybe the motor? im going to run 4500 cells so it wont be the same power te whole way through the pack.... i dont really want to make my move on this car to lipo or whatever, because it fairily cheap with everything i need which is what i want so i can finish it before x mas, and then do something else..
i think, since i saw mm's vid and it didnt look like there was fans on anything, so i could get a heatsink, clamp on the motor, and a bigger fan on the mm to keep it cooler? |
A fan on the MM would help no doubt. For me, the 8L was running at a good enough temp., so I wouldn't be too worried about that.
|
hot hot was ur mm running???
and what kind of fan??? can i get it at radio shack or where? |
When I had planned running an mt2, I was going to use a Lehner Basic L motor on around 7-8 cells. However, when you run an L motor on so little votalge, you run into high amps.
You should remember, this is a 1/10th car, not a monster truck. 12 cells is not necessary. With an S Series motor on 8 cells, you could be doing 55 no problem. Have you considered the Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium ST 1/10th 4wd truck? It looks to be a bit better designed than the mt2. |
I agree with Re~Mix. The Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium ST would be a better choice. I would go with the buggy version, but thats just me.
|
havent seen it.. any links?
and yeh i know on cells, but u really think i dont need 12???? i really want to rip wheelies, and just flat out HUAL |

i dont like there version on the mt, but i foued something i like more
the lightning gt 10, if its the same size as the mt, and not huge like a revo or what ever i like that.. but still i think the mt 18ss, comes with a all metal driveline, and its more what i want |
I second the lightning stadium ST, its the way to go. I think it would do better than the SS, but it really is personal preference. If you like the 18ss more, go for it!
|
Totally agree with the above coments. SSince it is your choice, go for whatever you want and the one you will have the most fun with.
|
i would take the 18ss becuase its easyer for parts availabillity here. (doesnt the hb one have a Center diff?)
|
yeh i still like the mt2 18ss, because its a pro kit, the hb one is cheap looking, and no upgrades on it... im going to get the mt18ss
