backwards tranny?
about a week ago i tore down my e-maxx to clean it and go through it. in the process i reversed the tranny and gearboxes for several different reasons and thought nothing of it BUT! i read on the UE site in there ad for the 8 spyder gear gearboxes that E-Maxx has the ring gear installed on the opposite side as the T does. You must either put the ring gear on the correct side or run your motors/transmission backwards (which is a major No-No.)
will it matter if i run it backwards? |
if you have brushless it doesnt matter which way the motor spins:D
i dont have brushless. i have trinity monster maxx 17x1 pro hand wound motors. i looked at it and they turn clockwise so i reversed the tranny and gearboxes to where it wont go in reverse when i hit the excelerator. its the correct direction and everything but is there some thing that is not supposed to be reversed? i dont see any reason it would matter but i dont know (thats why i am asking, duh!). any info would help.

Modified motors have timing, which is usually advanced. If the motor spin backwards (if you only reversed the tranny without reversing the diffs, for example), they will run hot and be very inefficient. Running an advanced timed motor in reverse for extended priods of time will wear them quickly as well as provide reduced power output. This is the reason for the UE post on his site. As long as your motors are turning in the proper diretion, you have nothing to worry about.

The TMaxx diffs are flipped compared to the EMaxx'...?!...interesting!
If you flipped the diffs when you put the tranny in backwards you will be fine, just watch out if you don't use the gear cover that you don't get any servo wires caught between pinion and spur
What are the bennifits of doing this? I've done it myself but, I haven't noticed a difference.
With the esc in stock position you can shorten the wires to the motors.Similar to using the gorilla motor mount but you have more clearance between motors and esc.
and it changes the weight distribution somewhat.
Can you gain much performance from shortening the wires?
A little. It lowers resistance (which gives more power, but in this case not much), it lowers the weight of the vehicle, and it makes things not so cluttered.

tranny
i am new to the forum site just registered yesturday but i've been reading on it I recently got my gorillamaxx aluminum chasis, motor mount and since you guys are discussing trannys and diffs i wanted to ask what i can do to my gorilla max when i installed the stock twin motors using the gorilla maxx motor mount the it ran in reverse what should i do to make run the proper way

aad, what you need to do is flip the differentials upside down to where the gear on the diff is on the opposite side of the bulkhead so it goes the opposite way to go foreward. it won't do any damage because this is the normal way to mount tmaxx diffs so you don't have to worry. By the way, welcome to the forums:)

thanks for the quick reply but i just wnat to clarify things when you say flip the diff upside down do you mean the internal gears or the whole diff with casing and do i do it to both front and rear diffs and by the way here's a picture of my gorilla maxx any coments
You can flip the whole diff casing. If you switch the transmission, then you need to flip both diffs.
