Hyper 7 Conversion
 

I received a package from Mike today. He did a fantastic job on the motor mount. Now I can finally start working on my conversion in earnest :)

I still need to construct some shelves / trays to mount the batteries, speed control, BEC and receiver. Then wait for spring :D

That motor mount looks great! I assume you'll probably do 2S lipo on each side of the chassis for balance?

Planning on using 5S2P A123 pack. Four cells on the right (servo) side and six on the left. They don't have the energy density of lipos but the fast charge and high discharge capabilities negate this to some degree.

If you plan to fill the chassis with batteries, make sure you leave room for the receiver, UBEC, and ESC. There is not much room in front height-wise because of how low the shell fits. Even with a conservative layout, I had to raise the body mounts because of this...

I think Mike sent me photos of yours when I was originally inquiring about having a mount machined. Good to know regarding the body, I'll have to do some experimentation after the battery mounting system is in place.

Your buggy looks very nice. Mike is actually making a motor mount for my 1/8 buggy right now. I hope it turns out as good as yours. :027:

I haven't seen anything Mike has done that did not turn out nice. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

that looks nice. should be easy to balance the buggy with the motor in the middle like that.

It should be pretty close. The servo weighs around 2 oz, the speed control is 2.5 oz and the receiver is half an ounce. The A123 cells weigh 70g/cell or about 2.5 oz each. As long as I can find a simple way to mount all the electronic gear on the right side of the car the side to side weight balance should be almost 50/50.

I'm going to try my luck with a Mamba Max for now. Hopefully the Neu/MM cogging problem isn't too severe. Racing season doesn't start for a month or two so I have my fingers crossed that Castle Creations releases the firmware update to fix the issue before then, or just release the Monster Max :)

Do you know if a Feigao XL motor will fit with that mount?

And how would I go about getting one of these as well for my hyper 7 project :)

e-mail him about it.
and yes, a xl will fit.
as long as the mounting holes or 25mm apart, any motor will fit.
