Lehner Question
 

I just got my 1940/10 hi-amp in the mail from Mike this last week and I noticed something that I wasn't sure about. When I spin the shaft by hand it will make a rubbing sound inside. Is that something to be concerned about? Did I get a bad motor? I hooked it up to a battery and speed control and played around with it (not in my CRT, just in hand) and it sounds great under load, but makes a little noise when you let off the throttle. What do you guys think?

It's like a scratching sound.

Normally all you hear is the bearings 'whiring' if you spin it fast.It should feel extremely smooth with no slop or backlash if you push and pull on the shaft.They're very quiet when you spin them compared to other motors but you can still hear the bearings.

Maybe the bearings got a little dried out sitting on some shelf somewhere for a long time?

If it was me, I'd try a little lube. But then again, if it's a new defective motor, you should be entitled to a fully functioning one without issues. I'd definitely email Mike and see what he says about it...

Can you take a close look at the mounting holes? behind the mounting holes sits a plastic plate (you can see the black plastic sitting behind the holes) perhaps something went wrong with assembling it. Each hole should be covered with the black plastic plate

Thanks for all the input guys. I can't see anything wrong with the motor in any way other than the slight noise. The latest is that I instaled it last night and ran it in the street. It ran incredible. I don't notice any noise anymore so I'm wondering if it was just the bearings. I figured the only way to find out for sure was to run it a little. It's not like the warranty will go away in the first week, you know? Plus, I just couldn't stand everything set up and then wait another month or who knows how long.

By the way, the 1940/10 hi amp is an insane motor for the CRT. I'm beyond happy. Thanks to all of you for steering my through all my questions. This board is awesome.
