Lehner XL5000 and Mamba ESC in touring car

Hi guys,

I just ordered a lehner XL5000 for my 1/10 touring car. I'm going to use it with the Mamba Max ESC and Maxamps 2S lipo.

My TC suffers from some cogging after braking for a turn. I hope with the Lehner that the problem will be gone. What should I try to do with the settings of the ESC to get less cogging ?

Does someone have an idea ?

It's set at :

Punch control: 20%
start power :low
timing : normal

Thanks.

You need gooood cells boy!!
that's one power hungry setup, it will propel your touring car to warp speed in the blink of an eye! i would love to see a vid of it flying by and tearing the ball-diffs into pieces!! :p :p

Good thing the MM has got a 'launch controll'

I use an XL2400 on my maxx. On 3S it MOVES.. :)

To prevent cogging;

Get trackpower 4900 lipo's
put the punch control to maximum
timing lowest
startpower lowest.

and play with these settings untill you like it. it can be geared rather tall, that's one strong motor for a 1/10th touring!

Serum,

Aren't the maxamps lipo's good cells ? I also use the 6000mAh maxamp's and the Orion platinum lipo's.

The cogging only occurs when driving on high bite carpet. When driving on asphalt with rather sweeping turns I don't have that problem. It seems like it only coggs after slamming on the brakes. I feel like the MM ESC needs a little time to shift from brake to trottle. When punching the gas just after braking it coggs a little but too much so it creates a sweep-out. The front wheels just lock for 1/10th of a second and the rear end comes around because I'm in the middle of a corner. Very frustrating.

I'm not even sure it really is cogging. I don't thinck it's because of bad batteries. I'm using maxamps for almost 2 years now in different applications and the problem only occurs with the Mamba Max motor and ESC on carpet. I also have the novak 3.5 in a TC and it's great and smooth like butter.
I'm thincking sensorless ---- sensored, maybe sensored isn't that bad at all for some applications like carpet.

Do you thinck the Lehner XL5000 will have better acceleration compared to the novak 4.5 or 3.5 ? And what about the speed ? I don't thinck the lehner will be faster since it's only 5000Kv.

To be honest , my novak GTB and 4.5 system is faster than my MM7700 in the same car and using the same juice. I still like the Novak's allot.

I can't comment about the on road stuff, but (as much as I like dealing with Austin at Maxamps) I can't really recommend their 6Ah packs. I puffed three of them in the past month or so. It appears that they cannot handle nearly as much of a load as they are rated for. I was running my 4S packs in a buggy with a MM/7XL combo with rather conservative gearing and the packs would come out piping hot.

I'm now running Kokam 4S 4800 packs and have not had any problems. I got the Kokams because maxamps was out of stock on the 5K cells and I needed batteries.

I think someone is looking to challenge for the world speed record LOL

I'm not going for a speed record , all I want is very good acceleration. My car is rather low geared.

My maxamps lipo's come out just slightly warm , even after a 20 minute run in my buggy ( with good fresh air supply ) so I can't say the packs are suffering from the high load. Not at all. My maxamps 6000 packs stay almost cold in the same buggy. I'm pleased with those Maxamps packs I must say.

the only other thing i would try is adding a nice big low esr capacitor to the mamba max to see if that helps at all.

easy rider 05.21.2007 04:43 AM

Yes , Maybe a capacitor would help a little. The XL5000 is in my car now and it's a lot slower than the MM7700 ! It has 2700Kv less than the MM7700 so that's normal. I'm going to put a Lehner 1920/5 HI-AMP in my car now and see what happens :-)

well if you gear up the xl should be just as fast if not faster than the 7700
