UBEC's?
I've been searching around and haven't really found any that fit my application.
Requirements are that it be as small as possible, decently priced, and 6V. Thanks guys. |

If you run only 2-3s, a linear regulator with heatsink should work ok. The micro steering servo shouldn't be a current hog so you should be good at ~1-1.5A. |
BP, I would go with the Dimension Engineering ParkBEC. Its a super small switch mode BEC. 1.25 amps continuous and 1.5 amps peak should be enough for the CRT .5.

Even with 2 digital servo's?
I actually was looking at their Sport BEC, which isn't much bigger, but does a heck of alot more current and is switchable between 5 and 6V. If the Park BEC is enough, I will get that, I'm just worried about current. |
If your running 2, I would still think it would be ok, but you might want to ask Brian. 3 amps is enough for 2 standard size servos (throttle and steering) in a MT, so I would think 1.5 amps is enough for the CRT .5...

I'm going to use 1 Digital Mid and 1 Digital Micro or Mini (not sub-Micro).
I think I'll just dish out the extra cash for the Sport one...might as well have overkill for $10 bucks more than risk frying it and spending $20+ on a replacement. |
1.5A average draw is probably more than enough - you just have to make sure it can do 3A+ peaks. But, TBH, I too would go with a solid 3A for two servos. It's better to have more current capability than not enough (to a point). But I tend to overdo things too. :)

Since you won't be buying this stuff for a while, I would suggest you wait. Castle is working on something right up your alley :).

It looks like it will be programable for the output voltage also up to 9V. I wonder what output increments it will have. Id be interesed in trying to squeeze an extra volt or so out of the bec to pep up the stering servo.

3.5v-9v in .1 volt steps... rated 7 amps weight 8 grams... those are the prototype specs.

Yea, I hav heard of people running their Hitec 5955TG servo's on 7.2V.
The thought has been that the 5955TG is the 5995 (Robot Servo) with less thorw. The 5995 Robot Servo is actually rated for 7.2v, and it is at that voltage when it produces its rated 417oz of torque. At 6V, it produces 333 just like the 5955 does at 6v. Also, since Spektrum Receivers are rated up to a healthy 9.6V, I'm thinking of cranking the voltage to 6.2 or maybe 6.5 or so. Not that I really need it, but might as well if its adjustable :D |
We can refer to it as servo steriods... or overclocking your servo....
