final drive ratio

in my e revo i have a final drive ratio of 18.9259:1 , which is way off from an emaxx(somewhere in the 17s) does this mean it will be slower than the emaxx and if so should i try to get closer to that ratio? if i go to a 38 tooth spur ill be at 18.025:1, or just try it and see where the temps are at?

What are you using for values? Are you using the Revo or emaxx tranny and what gear (first or second)?

If the ratio is too high, then yes, it will be slower. Try smaller spur, bigger pinion, and/or larger diameter tires if that is the case.

i am using the 2nd gear close ratio which is 2.5:1 and my 40/15 and the diffs @ 2.846, so its 2.846x2.5x2.66=18.9259

would that be easier on the esc? to have a higher gear ratio, does it need to be in the sweet spot (rpm)

Oh, ok. The Revo tranny. You can also go with the wide ratio gear set which gears it up a little if you run into trouble getting spur/pinion of the right size. FYI: First gear on the wide ratio is the same ratio, only second gear changes. Not a big deal since I removed first gear altogether and locked it in second...

Yeah, the sweet spot figure is something you should shoot for no matter what IMO. You can gear up to get the speed you want, but if the motor is struggling (ESC overheating) maybe a larger motor may be needed to provide the power as well as the speed.

What speed are you trying to attain?

dont know just want it to be like 30 ish and capable as a basher and maybe the occasional race
