Corvette bashing and boasting :)

hee hee

One thing I have to say to start out: test results vary with all cars... even when tested by the same magazine, they can get different results depending on the conditions and the specific car/driver that were used....

Here's some stats from the back of Road and Track (chart on various test results they have done) keep in mind these are not all the same model year and there are faster more expensive cars than these but notice the corvette does pretty well in similar company

car.......$$$$$$... 0-60....0-100... 1/4 mile.....topspeed..... skidpad...slalom
M5........$91995......4.1.....9.5.......12.4@116.. .. governed....0.87.......68.9
Z06.......$71485......3.6.....8.5.......12.0@121.. ...198............0.96......71.2
Viper.....$87190.......4.2.....9.3.......12.3@118. ....190............0.97......67.8
FordGT..$150525......3.8.....8.8.......12.2@121... ..190............0.99......69.5
Ferrari 430 $205000...4.0....9.3.......12.3@117......193...... ......0.90.....70.9
911 GT3..$118250.....4.2.....9.5.......12.4@114......1 90...........0.92......68.7

Wow...Seems to me that the Vette won almost all except for the skidpad and slalom, and was even the cheapest...Imagine that...

glassdoctor 04.07.2007 09:37 PM

I have seen a stock Z06 tested under 12 in the 1/4 and 1.02g skid...

The Ferrari Enzo and Perche 911 GT1 had much better #'s than the ones above but they are both stupid expensive too........ check this out:
.................................0-60/100.......1/4........top.....g's.....slalom
Enzo ......... $652,830.......3.3...6.6...11.1@133....218....1.01 .....73
911GT1....$1,000,000.......3.4...6.2...10.9@139... 174.....1.07.....n/a (mfg stats?)
Bugatti ....$1,482,700.......2.6...5.5...10.2@143....253.. ..0.94......68
MB SLR ......$455,750.......3.5...7.5....11.5@126...207.. ..0.97.....69.6
Saleen........$602,442.......3.3...6.0....10.6@140 ...250.....1.03.....70

then there is this thing...
Superformance $87,700...3.5...8.4...11.8@124...204...1.07...76.6

squeeforever 04.07.2007 09:44 PM

I believe the Enzo is more than $652,830. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I thought they were $1,000,000+.

glassdoctor 04.07.2007 09:45 PM

Me too... but that's the price they list... maybe there is more than one model?

Anyone besides me think it's not fair to compare a sub-$100,000 car to these half million dollar + rides?

squeeforever 04.07.2007 10:01 PM

Yea, its not at all. Those are supercars, not sportscars. Theres only one model of the Enzo, but I know for a fact that you have to have 2 prior Ferrari's (can't remember what models) to even be comsidered to be able to buy an Enzo.

glassdoctor 04.07.2007 10:17 PM

here's a vette w/ turbo and slicks... 1/4 mile...8.95 @ 153mph

squeeforever 04.07.2007 10:27 PM

Holy $h!t...Thats gotta be one of the fasted street-legal Vettes around. I didn't think that was possible without tubs, and the works...

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 04.07.2007 11:34 PM

No need for tubs, just a nice pair of slicks.
That Vette was tested also by Car&Driver a few years ago. Crazy to think but that thing is actualy street leagal (minus the slicks of course). Fastest street leagal car they have ever tested.

As far as the Enzo goes, that $650k+ price that they list is actualy what the window sticker was but none of them went for under $1mil. because of mark-ups.
I'm sure we all saw Eddie Griffins recent publicity stunt crashing an Enzo?

BP-Revo 04.07.2007 11:43 PM

Yea...what a waste of an Enzo. Some dumb actor goes straight into the wall - why the hell didn't he just steer the other way!? Then there's that one dude that hit the telephone pole at 162mph in Malibu...at least he was using the car...the dumb actor was going like 25mph...

The Enzo's are worth well over 1 million, but they did not cost that much from Ferrari. The fact that the a pre-requisite to owning an Enzo was being a previous Ferrari owner, and that only 400 were sold to the "public" (aka, the select Ferrari crowd), they are worth more.

What I find totally funny is that the first chart GD posted up there are a bunch of 2 door super cars and then...a sedan, and the performance isn't far off at all...especially since it probably weigh's the most.

The second charts hilarious too...all teh cars have ~3.5 second 0-60 and ~6.5-7 second 0-100 and ~200mph top speed. And then...there's the Veyron, with a 2.6 second 0-60, 5.5 second 0-100, and 253mph. :D The damn thing uses ~25 gallons of fuel in 14 minutes and a full set of tires in 15 minutes at full throttle LOL. Also does 0-100 in about the time my car does 0~65.

You guys have to hear that...

BrianG 04.07.2007 11:57 PM

I really like the M5. Maybe someday. :sigh:

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 04.08.2007 12:06 AM

Love the M5. Now even more so with an aftermarket exhaust.
GD actualy put the wrong trap speed for the M5 in his chart above. It should be 12.4@116mph. It's the M Roadster that had the 108mph trap speed.
Speaking of BMW M series. We have an 05 M3 at my work right now that I took out the other day and hammerd the hell out of it. That thing has a sweet sounding exhaust note as well. Drove that and a GTO back to back and the GTO was faster. Though I think I'd still take the Bimmer.

squeeforever 04.08.2007 12:08 AM

Actually, it looks more like about 50mph. His mistaken was not hitting the brakes to make it stick and stay planted instead of pushing like it did. That is a problem with mid engine cars. They push...

Yea, a GTO is basically a 4 seater Vette. Same engine (LS2) and tranny.

BP-Revo 04.08.2007 12:19 AM

He should have put the wheels straight and then slammed the brakes...would have stopped on a dime.
