Savage with HV-Maxx video - huh?
I was browsing around the net and came across this video, claiming that it is a Novak 4.5 system in a Savage.
Is it possible that a 750 system can get this type of performance in a heavy truck like a Savage, or is someone doing some chain yanking? I hope it is true, since I have a Neu 1515/1y coming right now for a BL MGT conversion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e-_5bHsU28 |
I think it's possible. I have an HV 6.5 in my Revo (less powerful motor, but lighter vehicle), and it performs like what you were seeing in the video if geared appropriately. I currently have mine geared a little lower because I do a lot of slower speed bashing which tends to heat things up for the ESC + motor, however. Just speculating here, but I don't think you could get away with that in all climates. I moved from Phoenix, AZ to Portland, OR last year and I'm amazed at how much taller gearing I can go.

It is absolutely possible.I have a 10.3lb revo with a novak hv4.5 and my truck is a tad faster than my buddies 8xl mamba revo.we both have the same 4s batts and truck setup.Acceleration and midrange are about the same.I have also raced a lehner 1940/9 with 5s and to my suprise he didnt beat me by much. With a somewhat light truck around 10lbs and good lipos dont count the novak out because you will be suprised. They were !

Doesn't look powerful to me... :024:

The Novak's, though they only have a 380 sized rotor, are still an XL motor, so they put out very decent amounts of torque.
In a heavier setup, they are limited more. But with a lightweight setup, they can actaully be pretty powerful. My G2R with the 4.5 wasn't noticably slower than MetalMan's 7xl on 5S A123. He did have alot more torque because he had an actual 540 XL, but I kept up just fine. |
Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but I don't believe that's a Novak. You can hear it cogging when he accelerates, and as I recall the Novaks are sensored systems. I have a 6.5 in my rustler and the only sound is from the gearbox, the motor makes almost no sound at all. Either it's a fake or he has a blown rotor bearing.

If thats really not a Novak, not saying it is or isn't, it sounds like somebody's pathetic attempt at making the Novak's seem better than they really are.

I watched it again, and I'm still pessimistic about the performance of the alleged Novak system in that truck. Savage's are pretty heavy usually too, that is moving around like it's a lightweight Revo/Maxx to me.

10kman, do you mean 750 size motors? dual setup? It could quite possibly be that, indeed it sounds like a brushed motor in there, kinda like my old dual 820 dewalt setup.
the 750 motors, according to Kershaw designs, are 175 watts each. |
Does that vid seem a bit off to you all? The sound lags a bit behind the video.
Listen to the braking, some of the times the truck is stopped by the time of the engine braking starts. Not sure I'd start calling it doctored, but something is def off. Some of the sounds are the gearbox shifting, it sounds like a 3 spd, which undoubtedly helps performance a bit. Perhaps this is what you heard as cogging Nitro? As far as the 750, I think he is saying 750W motors, not referrring to the size. |

I meant 750 watts yes, not 750 sized. The sound/video don't match up, but I thought it was bad quality recording or maybe my net connection, but could be a bad doctor job.

No, it's just audio lag. It's definitely the same video though.
This is an unsolved mystery huh? :005: |
I don't see a reason for the suspicion, why would anyone want to claim it was an HV if it wasn't? performance looks about right to me for a little 4s setup. It doesn't even wheelie, exept from a standing start which doesn't count,it doesn't look very powerful to me.
