More traction to front wheels?

Folks, what is a way to get more traction on the front wheels?

I think I need more on-power steering to be competitive with other MT's.

What are the possibilities to achieve this?

Stiffen the rear suspension.
Soften the front suspension.
Install a rear sway bar.
Smaller, thinner tires usually help as well.
Any or all of these may help you.

What about changing the oil in you diffs ?.

RC-Monster Mike 06.12.2005 06:55 PM

Heavier oil in the front will usually increase on power steering as well.

More weight up front like a reciever pack mounted between bulks or on shock tower.

Try 30k oil up front and 20k in the rear that should be pretty good.

If your interested I would say consider the X-wing driveshafts.

Now the famous question... What are X-wings?

The x-wing driveshafts are a oneway driveshaft system similar to the rd quick turns

Quote from the maker
"These are very similar to the RD center one-way accept they replace the front driveshafts. The RD just dis-engages the front end where as our set up dis-engages the front wheels separately from each other. This will allow for maximum entry steering and with a 300K front diff, max pull from both front tires off the corners."

You run them with a locked front diff to achieve the best possible entry and exit steering. With a lock front diff, you have great exit steering, but will push horribly on entry. This is where the one ways in each axle (the X-Wings) come into play. They allow you to essentially have "zero diff" when entering a corner, allowing maximum entry steering

Think of it as this lol. When going into a corner and applying the brake each tire spins seperately. However with a heavy weight diff oil, as soon as you give the throttle its as if having a spool in the front, both tires will engage and you will shoot out of the corner

Keep in mind I do not have these. YET

I will get them asap. As I love a great turning truck!

I made my own custom one way driveshaft! Works flawless and was an easy mod. But since I'm on buggy style shafts, I don't use it anymore.

PLUS: A one way front shaft does nothing for your ON-power steering.

Rcbros 06.20.2005 01:55 AM

may not for on-power but off power such as what you do in corners its excellent.

I;ll have a set as soon as I can.

Dafni 06.20.2005 01:59 AM

Sure, I agree. But right now I'm looking for on-power improvement.

I keep my self made shafts in my toolbox, and I might install it when I'm on a tight track, though.

you may could try lead weight w/double sided tape (like rc planes use for ballast)

my freind is making somethign exactly like that!
