Castle Link verson 3

Hey guys,

When I plugged my MM in today, I was notified that a new version of the software was available. I got excited because I thought that the Neu fix might be in there, but it wasn't. No big surprise there, but I was hoping.

If you try to install the upgrade and it tells you that a cabinet file is missing (which is what happened to me), just delete the file that you downloaded and start again. Just be sure that you save the file when you click on the link, rather than just running it.

It's the castlelink update; not the MM update, look here;

The link;

The controller;

I was hoping...Geez, has is already been that long since the last MM update. I think we're about due for another, don't you think? Since I just ordered my first Neu motor, I am now really anxious to see that update become a reality.

Serum 05.28.2007 03:46 AM

Yeah, me too!

i don't know what's taking them so long.. I expected them to launch it as soon as I read they addressed the problem. (with the slotted/non slotted motors, whatever that might be)..

Thought it had something to do with the freely spinning rotor on the feigao's and the magnetic resistance you feel when turning a Neu. (this has to do with the stator of the motor) but the plettenbergs seem to run just fine, so another theory goes down the drain.. (plettenbergs have got a huge resistance)

I'm just sort of confused with this whole Neu/MM thing. I spoke with Frank at S&T on the phone and he commented that the Quark controllers work exceptionally well with the Neu motors. He said something about the Neu liking the timing at which the Quark runs, which he said was on the high side. 6 degrees or something like that.

On the other hand, I've been shopping for a Neu motor and have been surfing the helicopter sites and the consensus for the Neu motors (when run with the Castle controllers) is to set the timing to the minimum setting. I've been trying to extrapolate information or find some sort of correlation among what Frank told me, what the helicopter guys are saying, and what we are doing here to find a set of settings that will work with the Neu motors for the MM, but I'm just tearing my hair out.

I'd really hate to have to relegate my brand new 1512 1.5Y to the shelf to await the outcome of my Quark's fate, or the arrival of my Compro from MGM. It would be really nice about now to be able to just download a fix.

I cant believe it's taking so long to get an update for the Neu motors seeing how Neu sells the Castle controlers so the 2 companys do have a working relationship with each other. I have been waiting around six months for the elusive update for my CRT. :(

I have had good luck with the MM and the 1506 Neu in my CRT.5 though no signs of cogging yet and I have ran 3 packs on it. :) I think the lighter weight and smaller motor help my CRT.5 weighs 4 lb's vers the CRT at 10 lb's with the 1515 neu?

It's funny I have seen post from Castle employees that say the MMM has beem done for about a year there just looking for a motor to package it with? Then from what I get from Joe Fords post it sounds like the update is not going to be anytime soon and the MMM is probably going to be another year before we see it on the market. :035:

The good thing now though it sounds like there are 3-4 companys working on new high voltage high amp car controlers for 1/8th scale vehicles?
1- Castle
2- Tekin
3- Novac
4- Traxxas? they could be a new player?
Who's going to get there's out first.:027:

I actually mentioned this in another topic. I was also thinking that it is possible that Quark is coming out with a new esc besides for the 4 above, that is actually capable of 6s or more.

We'll just have to wait and see.

BrianG 05.28.2007 02:42 PM

So, does that mean that whatever Quark rates this new ESC, we are going to have to subtract at least 1s from that value? ;)

Serum 05.28.2007 03:30 PM

that's kind of a habbit..

BrianG 05.28.2007 03:53 PM

Yes, it's sad but true. Does the smaller 33A controller run at its rated voltage? Or is the problem limited to the Monster series?

AAngel 05.28.2007 04:32 PM

The last time I talked to Frank at S&T, he did say that they were working on a new controller, but it's going to be another 1/10 scale controller. He said that they haven't even started looking at designing/building a bonafide 1/8 scale controller; so it looks like it's going to be either the Tekin or the Castle.

In the smaller 1/18th scale cars 4s is about the largest battery you can fit in these little cars it says there rated for 5s? I was going to try 5s in my RC18B for the worlds fastest rc contest but I just found out I'm going to be in Hawaii working on a movie when they run the contest in July. :(

I dont know of anyone else that has tried 5s yet with the Quark 33a :032:

BrianG 05.28.2007 06:35 PM

It would be interesting to see how it works at the rated voltage. lol, the 33 probably uses the same FETs, just fewer of them. If that's the case, it probably will work on 5s. Just don't try 6s. :)

well, the only thing with v3.00 is the added support/new background image...

BrianG 05.29.2007 11:02 PM

The release notes for the Castle Link says it's beta. Here's the page...
