How did you start?

A guy on my forums @ RCBros started a similar link. I think its really cool so I brought it over here...........

How did you get your start in RC???

I was introduced to RC by my dad. He had (2) RC Planes (Nitro) and (2) RC Boats: 1-Nitro Hydroplane, and 1-gas 1:10 scale replica of a 48' Chris Craft luxury yacht.

My first RC was a Bolink Digger 1:10 Off-Road Car (Talk about "Old School")

My "Digger" had a black molded graphite chassis & a bright orange VW Bug Body.

See attached pics of the same vintage Digger...can't believe I found them...LOL!

So how did you guys get your start?????

My brother somehow got into rc cars. However, he always had nitro's. Now he has a .26 revo and (after I persuaded him) a brushless rc18t. I pretty much started the hobby by following him. However, my first rc car was electric, and since then, I have only tried nitro's... never owned one myself. However, thats perfectly fine by me. :)

A couple friends picked up RC's; one a Revo, the other a CEN Genesis. The Genesis seemed to be far more fragile than the Revo. Being electrically-minded, I really wanted an electric, but the e-maxx seemed so prone to breakage. So, I eventually picked up a Revo as well.

I ran it for about 8-10 months and got tired of Nitro (smell, noise, constant tuning, and never-ending nitro MESS). So, I saw Dafnis e-Revo and was inspired. Since then, I've had two Revos (a Dafni-style design, and the one I have now), Jato, Hyper8, and CRT.5.

I probably should have added to my original post...........

Since the Digger I've had a Losi XXT-CR Graphite Plus Stadium Truck, an Associated TC-3 Touring Car, Traxxas T-Maxx, Traxxas E-Maxx, Traxxas Revo 3.3, and my Supermaxx E-Maxx.

I'm negotiating on a 1:8 buggy and a Revo roller right now. if the price is right one of them will be converted to brushless to fill the gap until my Supermaxx is reassembled and ready to go.

my friends and i enjoyed bashing radio shackers often and liked cheap rc. And one day he said his uncle was into some rc that went 50mph. That right there hooked my i then wanted somethig that could outrun my moms car in a drag race. He later got a nitro rustler with .18 and stinger and it was fast. I liked it so much i saved for 1 year of mowing grass and picked up a t-maxx 2.5 for my first vehicle.

My first RC vehicle was a Tamiya Grasshopper back around 1984-5 timeframe. My next was a Kyosho Rampage 10 in about 1989. After that, it was a long while until about 1997 with a RC10GT. In 2002 I believe it was, I bought an E-Maxx followed by a Tamiya EVO III in 2003.

Now I have:
E-Maxx
Tamiya EVO III
FT T4
Team T4
CRT .5
LSP-R
RC18T
and a VXL Rustler on pre-order from tower

I started by buying the first RC Car Action issue in 1986, at a supermarket. I was hooked without running one, had to wait a year to get my first one in '87, an Aristo-craft (hitec now) kangaroo. It was fun but not very strong, then the next year i got a Hirobo Zerda for christmas, it was fun till i lot a bearing, then it set. the first one i got myself was a team Losi JrT sport truck in about'90, it was fun, but i got into slotcars and it sat on a shelf and i eventually sold it. about '95, slotcars died out and i wanted a new hobby and got a rustler and a tekin rebel with a 14 turn motor and run that for a long time (still have it, waiting for me to put it back together) from there i've been in full time. from the rustler i got a T3, T4 Emaxx, revo, MGT, Lst, b4 buggy, *t truggy and a academy 4wd buggy. I have a few classics as well, I have traxxas blue eagle LS, traxxas SRT, Losi JRXT and JRT(not the same one a different one) and spare parts for them when i get to run them. Oh, I forgot to include the Kyosho Javelin in the collectors

I started when I was a kid with a Tamiya Grasshopper and Traxxas Cat, then got an Associated RC10 and an RC10T.

When I was 14 and went to Maui for the summer to teach wilderness survival merit badge at the boy scout camp, my step monster threw all my RC away, because "teenagers do not need toys"

I took a 20 year sabbaticle from the hobby and on Jan 3rd 2007 I convinced my wife I needed a new hobby, went to my LHS and came home with an e-maxx, 2 months later I bought a Rustler.

I started out in slot cars, and had a Cox .049 car ON A STRING. First real rc was a Kyosho Outlaw Ultima (stadium truck). Had many since then; RC10's, 10T, still have an original RS4 that I pre ordered before they hit the stores. See sig. for current running rides.

My father bought my 32 year old bro a 1/10 gasoline buggy around the 1970s and eversince, my big bro became addicted to rc. All the way from the super old electric Pajero truck to the Nikko line of rc cars ( toyota hi-lux-both types) to the Yunizawa Land Dash and the Super Missller. My second big bro joined him. Me, soon after( I was 6 years at the time). They bought the Nikko Dictator buggy when I was 8 and then when I became 14, I got the chance to own the super cool Nikko Super Sprint, the Dandi Dash fast brother. I stayed away from rc for over 7 years and then I knew about a place where they sell Tamiya cars( Yeah, Man, TAMIYA!!!). I went to him and got the very old Super Saber, but because of my twisted mind, I returned it and got the Chevy S10 truck. Soon after I got the Blazing Star buggy and hopped it up with parts worth over $400. I met a guy who can buy through the net, and brought me the Tamiya TRF414M2( That was the beggining of my real experience). Eversince I brought in an internet and started travelling the cyber world searching for the ultimate cars around. Got the TB EVO 3 Surikarn Edition and then the Associated B4 and then the RC10L3T and then the Tamiya TB EVO 4MS and then I started doing my brushless researches( around 4 years ago), got in contact with the NAMELESS one, hated him, looked around further more. Found a place called rc-monster?!?! I thought the owner might be as bad as the Nameless dude( because my country was not listed in the shipping list). After that, I got to the site again and found out that it has a brand new forum, signed in and was lucky enough to receive the very first reply from Mike himself. I saw all the fancy brushless trucks and I was inspired and just two years ago I started my GrandArk project( SuperMaxx) and now I'm working on my HB Cyclone.
Very sorry to be so intricate.
