Need help with Strobe Slipper
 

I just got my Strobe Slipper and feigao 8xl setup today. I was hoping I could just slap it all in and go, but thats not the case.

I can't seem to get the slipper setup to fit on my stock emaxx input shaft. It appears the bearing used in the slipper is to small to fit around the hex shaped shaft. Is there a way to fix this?? Do I need to use more force?? Help please I am dying to try out my new setup!!

You need to lightly file/sand the edges of the shaft.

Yeah, it's a must do mod. Quite easy, with a cutterblade on the dremel it's done in a few seconds.

Thanks guys... wow I read that strobe info probably twice over and never noticed the bold instructions regarding this, and it was even repeated twice... I guess I was a little to eager to get going lol.... thanks again

man that seems like a lot of work. Not grinding i mean but dissassemboling the bearing, degreasing it, breaking in the slipperpads, and and sanding the strobe. DO you always need to do this for best results.

Is there anything wrong with just using the hex part from the original slipper? I realise this wouldnt move quite as freely as a bearing but is there much in it? especially after cleaning all the grease out of it.

OK, I just got everything setup and I took it out for its first run. I went real easy on her to make sure everything was working right.. As I was checking the temps of everything, I noticed that the slipper was extremely hot!! I could barely touch it. Is this normal??

It's probably too loose.

Yeah, too loose is a bad thing in RC.

Yes, definitely too loose! If it's very hot, you might want to check the pads to see if they've melted. You have to set the slipper quite tight - basically 1/2 turn from fully tight.

The thing is, it wasn't that loose, maybe a 1/4 turn or less from tight.

I took it out a few more times bashing around, then one time I noticed the Maxx would not go at all when I hit the throttle, you could just hear it spinning. Turns out it had loosened itself almost all the way off! Anyway I tightened it back up again, and went bashing a few more times. Today I looked at it real close, and noticed the back was melting off!!! I had it 1/4 turn almost the whole time, except for maybe a few minutes when I noticed it loosened itself.

Am I doing something wrong? or should I get the high temp pads for it?

If it loosened it's self off then it definitely would have had enough slip to melt the pads.
How did it come loose? Your using a nyloc nut and traxxas spring right? It's just that in the 5 years I've had my maxx the slipper nut has never come loose like that. And I've had a strobe on mine for about six months (not high temp pads) and they look almost new, besides the dirt. I do mine up pretty tight.

I don't know how it came loose. I am using the same nut and spring that came with my Emaxx (bought on ebay). maybe I will look into a new nut, as well as some new pads. And keep an eye on the nut from now on. Thanks

there should be a spring and nut from a associated MGT that came with it, you should use those
