motor screws

hi, does anyone know where i can get new motor screws, the screws that attach the motor to the motor mount?

GorillaMaxx360 06.19.2007 10:57 PM

for what vehicle

asianplayer 06.19.2007 10:59 PM

just an electric motor in general, but in my case, a feigao xl7.

You LHS should carry the 3mm size you need. To determine the length, put the motor up to the mount and manually thread any 3mm screw in slowly until the end touches a coil and then back off a turn or two.

Yeah, any 3mm screw from a hobby shop will work. If you go to a hardware store, it is 3mmX.5mm pitch. I pulled the front endbell off of one of my 7XL motors and the endbell was 6mm thick, so get a screw that does not protrude more than 6mm beyond the motor mount. Keep in mind that the depth is different for different brands of motors. To keep it safe, I'd go with 5mm, which is more than enough thread engagement.

for mounting motor (actually all over my truck) I started to use AP hexscrews (from hexscrews.com) they dont get loose as fast as standard 12.9 grade screws and i did not want to use loctite

i use M3x8mm as the motor mount has like 4mm a 4 mm are enough to hold the motor (if i remmember Neu manual says something about max 5mm into the motor)

How did you get your endbell back onto the motor can? I have a Feigao 8XL and the mounting screw endbell has separated from the can, and I can't get them to stay together anymore.

The rc-monster motor clamp/heatsink cures that problem. The end bell should just push-fit back in place, but use a few tiny drops of glue to stop it slipping out- I wouldnt run it again until you can get the mount, otherwise it is in danger of being damaged.

Regardless of whether you use the motor clamp or not, I'd use some jb weld to stick that front endbell back onto the motor can.

asianplayer 06.23.2007 05:21 PM

yeah i made my own motor clamp but i also made my own motor mount so it would work

Thats a bit.... rough, but as long as it works fine, then thats all that matters really. I would recommend some studding (threaded rod) in place of those wire rods- screw it into the front piece/motor mount, then make the back piece so it can slide on, then secure it with nyloc nuts.

asianplayer 06.23.2007 08:36 PM

oh yeah thats my old pic, i did get some #6 threaded rod and smoothed it out a little, heres the new pics

I didnt have any nylon nuts so i used red lock tight on the bolts to make sure they didnt move but i decided not to threat the motor mount because I figured it might cause to much stress on the threads, plus i had already drilled it out to big anyways.

Mike would be proud of the plagerism! I would put a little bit of tape over the bearing at the back of the motor- keeps out the dirt & makes the bearing last longer. But that is basically what is required to stop the end bells from popping off.

asianplayer 06.24.2007 03:21 PM

I kno it needs tape but its not my motor is my neighbors that he letting me use to mock up my motor mount but i already told him to do it bt hes just one big procrastinator so i cant do to much for him.
