What is durability of the 3sp Savage transmission like?
I will be running a 10xl on 22.2v in my emaxx/savage hybrid (maxx with sav transmission). This is the three speed I am running with mostley metal gears. I was wondering for you experienced users if you know how the transmission will hold up.
I also plan to upgrade my powertrain in the future to a true HV system (40+ volts). Will the 3sp trans hold up? Thanx |
the question should be - do you need to have 2 or 3 speed transmission? big BL systems have so much power that you dont need 1st gear. at least I dont. i can wheelie even at almost top speed if i hit throttle bit hard :).
a have seen to many stripped savage transmissions lately (3 trucks/3 weeks/3 transmissions) and they were in standard nitro savage. no dirt inside. they just stripped. maybe alloy cas would help as the plastic has some flex that could have caused it with big BL I would go for as simple transmission as possible |
It will hold up fine. I am running a Neu 1521 on 8S Lipo and no problems yet. Wallot is right about first gear. It comes and goes so fast that it can't be doing anything! Still like to see a Savage Slipperential.

The thing with a three speed is that you can change your pinion/spur combo to accommodate the three speed.
If I find the first gear uselessly uncontrollable, I'll just change the pinion out until I get what I want. This also means that I will get more top speed out of it. I find that my brushless setup it not powerful enough to go on a single speed (while keeping me satisfied). |
i have been running my 3 speed bl savage for over a year with a 7XL and 18cells without a tranny problem yet, my only problem has been the diffs failing and breaking the glue from the tires constantly. :031:
