How to mount 12 or 14 cells in stock revo?
Guys, I just picked up a stock revo roller that was setup for electric but never completely finished. I am wondering if anyone has any setups that involve 12 or more cells using the STOCK transmission. Every converion I see with nimhs uses the E-Maxx transmission. I want to run 12 or 14 cells, here is what I have so far:

good start... but i suggest you buy the revo mount form RCMONSTER... it will make your conversion that much easier! plus in looks great

Here's how I did mine. I'm running (14)IBs. It's two (7) cell flat packs shrink wrapped together to form a solid brick. +10 on the RC-Monster mount, it works great.

i am going to set mine up with 14 cells on the passanger side, but have often wondered if there is any weird flight patern since it will be heavier on ove side. PLZ help

It doesn't affect the flight at all, several of the members have theirs set up this way. I was a little concerned at first, but lots of runs have now proven to me that it doesn't affect it. You have enough weight offset with the motor, heat sink, servos, ESC, etc.

Having the weight off balance that much will still affect performance. How much, I don't know.

I run my batteries the same way Cajun does - in one 14 cell brick pack. To help keep the cells from rubbing on each other possibly wearing away the insulating jacket, I seperate each row with a piece of 1/16" thick craft foam. I then seperate each cell in each row with a piece of paper folded in half and cut to size. Once you heatshrink the whole thing, it works well and gives me a piece of mind. I don't want a cell blowing up in my face because the negative "can" of two cells rub and short out cell(s). :)
And, maybe I'm just not a good enough driver to notice, but I have not seen any negative flight adjustments with the weight on the side. You have to remember that the motor, ESC, and steering servo is on the other to offset this and the tranny itself has off-center weight. |
ok, this had kindove helped fuel my ideas. i think i will vut the nose off my battery box thing i threw together. and mount my receiver infront of the bateries. and the ESC where the throttle servo is suppose to be mounted.
i asked for some help at my LHS to make a battery mount. and they had a great idea but not shure if its possible. they suggested makeing a aliminm plate to fit snug aginst the chassis and somewhat match the way the chassis already is formed, then get an Air plane fuel cell and use that on the aluminm to make the battery box. i was also wondering if any one has had a problem bending that little peice of chassis that will take the most of the Battery weight? |
The chassis is aluminum, but very stiff and should work fine. I got my 12 cells fit in just a bit ago, the battery mounts and all are done and now I just need to find a place for the UBEC, RX, and ESC. I will have pics later, I am going to work on the other mount now.
