set up help
hey guys, some of you may know i just worked a deal for a x1 cr buggy for 150$ i plan to do a bl conversion on it, and i plan to sell most of my cars for money and room, but the car it's self need some work it is in need of a new chassis and a good shock rebuild stuff like that. i have my pede about up and running so i have somthing to keep me busy while building this car so i can take my time on this one so i plan to go big.
i am thinking neu 5s. the good stuff! but i am still not very familiar with the upper class brushless motors and i dont even have a lipo charger (working on it) but what would be a good motor choice and what is a good and some what cheap lipo set up that would get the best performance out of the neu? |
anyone?
|
For a motor on a truggy, I'd go with a Neu 1515. Since you want to use cheaper lipos, I'd go with a 6s or even 7s setup and then choose a wind that goes along with that; like a 1515/2.5d (kv=1700). For cheaper lipos, you could go with Maxamps or TrueRC. Get something with around a 100A discharge rate.

no no this is the buggy.
|
Oh, then a 1512 is plenty. Still, for lower current draw, I'd use 5s and the 1512/2.5d and use a 12-14T pinion. That setup should be easier on the batteries so higher quality ones won't be absolutely needed.
|
ok, would the 5000 5s from max amps work good?
|
Hmm. I'm not sure if those would be adequate. I use them on my Jato and CRT.5 and they work fine, but those are much smaller and lighter vehicles. I would see what someone else says about them.
If you go to 6s on a Neu 1512/3d (kv=1700), the 5,000mAh cells should be ok since the higher wind will pull less current. For that setup, I'd use a 12T or 13T pinion on the 46T spur. This should keep you in the 35mph top speed range. |
ok, now my next question i have have heard the neu and the mm dont work real well together so i would take it i would have to get a quark, but which one would be the best bang for the buck, and since i think both quarks can run up to 6s would i see a diffrence with a 6s?
i know it would be silly to try and cheap out on the esc but the cheaper the esc the better battery i can get. |
Well, I wouldn't run the MM because of the Neu and the fact that 6s is a bit out of it's range. The Quark doesn't like 6s even though it says it is rated for it. That would leave MGM as the only high voltage choice (for what Mike has anyway). Unfortunately, like the quark, it aint cheap. I would get this one. It has the added benefit of a built-in switching BEC (UBEC) so no need to get an external one. So, that saves ~$35 right there. And from all reports, it runs cool. The only negative is something to do with the brake or something like that, but only happens at low speed IIRC.
|
haha heck yeah man we can make a car go as fast as you want but stoping is another factor lol.
yeah the cheapest mgm was 274 or somthing around there so it is pricy but seeing as i am only keeping two cars (this buggy and my pede) it wont really matter too much. is there any higher kv neu's that would run good with the car or should i go way low kv and high voltage? |
Well, running high voltage on a low kv motor will help reduce the current. Reduction in current will help you pick batteries that aren't so fussy. For the same speed and power in a lower voltage setup, you need more current. It's the high current that makes the lipos expensive.
|
oohh ok, so the 1700kv neu and a 6s is good for 35 or so but still have god run times and good temps?
|
Yeah, two other benefits of lower current are lower heat and greater runtime. Although runtime depends on what you consider "good". I get about 40ish minutes on a hot setup (1512/2d (2600kv) with 8Ah 4s pack). So, since your setup won't be so hot, and probably lighter, I would estimate on right around 25ish minutes of runtime on a 5Ah pack. Of course, this depends a lot on weight, drive style, etc.
Before you go and order stuff, I'd wait to see what others say about this recommendation. Doesn't hurt to get other opinons. |
i still have not gotten the car yet i have to ship first so once i ship he ships then the fun starts.plus the car really needs a few parts so it will be a bit till parts start to come in. i have a thread in the general topic with pictures i think i called new project.

Just get some Flight power 25C 5k packs!
Those will give some AWSOME run time!!! But dang brian, 6S? This guy is cheap lol =P Just kidding The rest of the deal sounds good! |
