Ext. chassis 4 emaxx...???
 

Wow what a wonderful chassis but was disappointed because it came with no instructions.

So I'm wondering what these aluminum pieces are for? Are they the spacers for the steering setup? And where do you mount the antenna?

the two matching ones are for the (use one) servo setup because the stock uses plastic, the cone shaped thing (looks like a new addition) is a antena holder i believe.

Yeah, the chassis' never used to come with a mount for the antenna, so FLM seem to have added that which is good of them. It should screw into a spare gole somewhere, then the antenna feeds up through the bottom, and you fit the anteena tube as normal over the wire/into the holder.

your first pic is of the steering post holders. the antenna holder isn't worth a darn, as i couldn't find a single hole anywhere that it would fit in...so i had to buy a separate antenna mount. that chassis is long gone now, so i can't take pics.

make sure you use something like weatherstripping on the battery tray slots, as there are some sharp edges in there that will really chew your batteries up.

yeah, im batteries have some battle scars now only after a few runs. the antenna mount is nice, i mounted mine right behind the steering servo. there should be a threaded hole there for it. they didn't chase the threads well for that hole and i had a hard time getting it started. what i did was used a phillips screw driver just the right size to fit in the mount for extra umph and made it go in since i didn't have a tap for that size. once it got past the first booger, it was all cake.

Thanks guys. I got some of it put together tonight and only had to use one steering spacer (have a proline kit). And cut a little plate to mount the receiver on and another for the MM and UBEC. I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow. I also looks like the wheelbase is perfect for the body I just bought.

yeah, I couldn't find a hole to use the antenna holder so I just drilled out the front center hole a little and fit the tube there and perfect! Works for me.:yipi: I was also thinking about the battery trays, they do seem a little sharp on some edges. I was going to use a double layer of toolbox liner to cushion the tray and give it a little grip too. This stuff:

Nice, I like the "custom" motor mount. Is that a Majestic body?

It's a Proline F650 body for a Revo 3.3. Picked it up for $60 on ebay, my painting skills suck.

the toolbox liner is a great idea too - and you wouldn't even really need to use an adhesive as it's probably grippy enough that just the batteries pushing on it would hold it in place. (with the weatherstripping, i had to use denaturated alcohol to clean the trays really well before sticking them on. they don't have the strongest adhesive)

Well I finished it up this morning. Hope to run it tomorrow and break the bulks so it gives me an excuse to buy the FLM ones!

I was also planning on putting bigger shocks on and the someone told me to buy some Losi Aftershock ones. Well I got them in the mail today and I can't believe how huge these things are. Here's a pic of them next to the traxxas ones. I'm going to try to find a way to mount these suckers. Another project!

In your 6th pic from the top, the antenna holder screws in near the inside rear most corner of the servo. I have discovered though some hard looking at mine that the chassis plate has a "preferred" top and bottom. Won't say correct, but preferred. This antenna holder made that evident. You've put yours together just like I did which has the preferred top facing down, not up.

The holes for the antenna holder are much much easier to thread from the preferred top side, they are chamfered and the holder threads in easy like its supposed to. There's also another place you can put the ant holder toward the rear. I threaded mine in, but it took some real doing using a small phillips as someone suggested. Before I did that, I tried it from other side - threads in so easy its obvious that should have been the top - should have assembled with chassis plate flipped over. Thats real dumb on flm's part not to point this out (its also typical), assuming you want to use their antenna holder...

What motor is that you're running, you're light years ahead of me, and looking at how yours is turning out has me anxious to get mine finished! Yours is looking good! I've got a 8XL, Quark 125 and plan on running 18 cells to get started - reason I didn't use mm. The wiring is going to be a real challenge! Hope yours checks out great, be sure to let us know!

Right now I'm running a Feigao 9XL, and MM/BEC disabled for the Hobbywing UBEC. On the first two runs the temps never got above 120 for the motor and 110 for the MM. It was 8 in the morning 72 degrees outside. I'm also lucky that I have a couple of the older MM's from my crawling days. They can go to 5S with the BEC disabled. That was with the stock chassis and Proline Maxx Mashers. I had it geared 18/66.

I changed it to a 22/66 now but I haven't run it yet. It'll probably overheat due to the Big Joes now. So I might have to go back down to an 18T.

Is the Neu 1515 1y/F really that more efficient? And I can't use Neu's with MM's, right?

If it is I'll be ordering one sometime next week for sure.

As for the shocks they look like they would fit in a Civic. I wonder if their are any other arms out there that can be used on a Maxx. I know HPI arms work on a pede for a wider stance.

Anything's possible with enough time and $$$.
