8XL skipping
I have a problem with an E-Maxx. It was previously running well (35 mpg), now it is skipping – like cogging – with full throttle. It began as going very slowly with full throttle (like dead battery), so I increased the throttle EPA which increased the speed, but the skipping began. The motor does not get hot after 3-4 mins but the controller gets to 120F and capacitors 150, batteries and motor are nml for temp. Set up – 8XL, 12020, 12 cell IB 3800, 18T and Strobe Slipper. I removed the EBEC and went to a battery pack, no change. Ant thoughts on what it could be? Many thanks from a rookie!

Check all your connections - mainly the battery Deans and the motor/ESC plugs. After a while, these connections may become dirty and/or oxidized and not pass current like they should.
|
and while you are at it, check the motor connections as well.
Can you check the capacitors on the controller to see if they are not swollen or if the heatshrink isn't melted on them? |

Thanks all. I removes all of the shrink wrap and the connection looks fine. None are loose. I see no oxidation - the silver from the soldering looks good. The shrink wrap over one of the capicitors it melted, but that happened shortly after putting it together with gearing issues, it has run fine. I see no swelling in the capacitors. I am sure that could still be it. I have put in some pics, what do you think? Once agian, thank you!Attachment 3345

It looks like to me that the capacitor heatshrink is melted and torn, and sure sign that it has been over stressed. Unless, did you cut the shrink yourself?

That capacitor doesn't look too healthy! you could try adding some low ESR capacitors to your batteries to see of that solves things.
If the capacitor stopped working the controller gives a pulsating load to the batteries; something NIMH batteries can't stand. Their performance will suffer badly, voltage will drop.. But it also might be something else. Have you got another receiver you can test? that's one of the things i would try. |
Could be the core has broken - Mine behaved similar - took lots of juice to get it to run - cogged etc....
ESC gave up in smoke - stripped it all down and the core was cracked - that was at 30k rpm - I bet you are running more... |
I am pretty new at this, how do I add capacitors to a battery? Is that something you pick up at an electronics shop? Can the ESC be repaired?
When you said the Core was bad, is that the ESC or motor? Once again, I apologize for the rookie questions. |
Serum, I did put the stock traxxas reciever back on and the same thing happened
|
The actual core of the motor :
