Bearing Problems

I just installed a gen 4 servo saver kit last week and already I've got damage.

The bearing on the bottom of the saver side just came apart.

Don't you guys think there should be a bushing on the bottom of the post for this thing? To separate the post from the bearing.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I've only had this thing for a week or so. :grrrrrr:

i guess i'm confused and need more info (a pic could help a lot too). how did it come apart? while driving? did the outside race just fall loose over the post? there shouldn't be any pressure from anything on that bearing...it sounds like it may be a defective bearing. contact robin or sam and they should get a replacement out to you.

if they can't help, it's a 5x8x2.5 bearing.

one thing that could've caused a problem is too much loctite that may have dripped into the bearing...which will cause it to seize up. although you're saying it's a bottom bearing, which is less likely...

Here is a pick. The whole bearing just came apart. Yeah I already took a bearing out of my old kit and put it together.

Is that rust inside the bearing?

macr0w 10.07.2007 09:12 AM

Not a chance. Unless it rusted in a week.

That's dirt. It had been raining earlier in the day before my last run.

You should have seen the rest of the vehicle. :intello:

Replace them with ceramic type bearings and have a peace of mind.;)

Do you have a link to the ceramic bearings?

I have lost a total of 5 bearings in this thing so far. They just keep coming apart.

The guys at UE are just telling me I don't know how to install it properly.

You should either ask Mike to get them for you, you know they are 5x8x2.5mm size bearings, right? or go to towerhobbies and check them out there. A good company that makes ceramic bearings is acer racing.

i suspect if you get ceramic bearings, you'll just end up going through more expensive bearings. going through 5 bearings is a lot, and indicates something else is wrong besides the strength/quality of the bearings.

Yeah...when you think about it, there might really be a problem with the servo saver.

macr0w 11.06.2007 08:49 PM

You know what? After smoking a Hitech 5955 tg servo I figured out that I needed to turn my end points down a bit.

So I think the whole bearing deal was mostly operator error.

A 333 oz. servo was pushing too hard and crushing the bearings.

I also had my linkage in the last hole on my servo horn, just to push a little harder.
