Which buggy to convert?
 

Well guys, I'm ready to take the leap to convert an 8th scale buggy but I've no idea which one and what are the pro's & con's of converting each are. I'd like an easy conversion with minimal modifications to the buggy and still keeping its durability. Basically I've singled it down to either the Team Associated RC8, the Xray XB8, or the Losi 8ight. I'm going for complete insanity on this project something like a 1515/1.5d possibly with a Quark Monster Pro 125b on 5s for the power. Any input on any of the candidates is extremely helpful in my decision making, and if you've got pic's of your conversions please post, I need all the help I can get :yes: . Just because there has never been a converted RC8, I think you should do that one. If I remember correctly, Mike was actually making a mount for it.

You definitely can't go wrong with an XB8. I didn't care for the 8ight that we did. It drove like crap, for me.

RC8 gets my vote (cause I want one)

Who was it that just bought out AE? I don't remember, but the buzz around my LHS was that the RC8 looks a whole lot like the buggy that the new owner is already making. It's just what I heard.

Aside from that, the X-Ray stuff is just plain tough.

That's it!! I forgot. Thunder Tiger has been around for a long time and is a good company. Just not very big here in the states. I think that their buggy is the EB1. Check it out and then look at the RC8. From what I hear, there are significant similarities. I just haven't cared enough to check for myself.

Although I'm running a Losi now, I'm really an X-Ray fan. If the XT8 had been out when I was in the market, I would have gotten that without giving it a second thought. You really can't appreciate the quality unless you've sat down and built one yourself.

All top of the line buggies and truggies are the same, IYAM. It comes down to whom you like and want to support...

I would personally go with either an OFNA X1CR or a Losi 8ight.

Yep... Thunder Tiger has owned AE for a while now... I would guess a couple years.

FYI if anyone wants a solid buggy at a bargain price... I know the guy who is the importer for the new Caster line of cars. They have a pretty nice buggy and truggy. It's based on the Mugen car. I don't know if he would let me... but I could try to get one at my cost (about 50% off retail) if anyone wants one. He is just getting set up with inventory, website, race team, etc... it jsut happened a few weeks ago. Pretty cool to have a buddy in the ground level like this. he thinks the car will make a name for itself in time. It's VERY competitive in the right hands... was the fastest car at a recent big midwest race... but we haven't seen the RC8 in mass yet.

Has it been that long? I didn't think it was take long ago, but my sense of time is skewed. I guess it has something to do with it all being downhill after you hit 30.

Yeah I really appreciate quality parts and building a nice kit so I think i'm going to have to go with an x-ray xb8 ec. Does anyone have any setup pics of this buggy converted as the only ones I seem to find wont show the pics I guess they got lost when the forum went down a few months ago. Thanks for the help y'all. I talked to my LHS and they told me this is the buggy to have if you want a big time brushless system as its already tough enough to handle the power due to their quality parts and the use of Hudy spring steel. Now.. what kind of power should this thing get? I'm honestly trying to beat Novak's speed record they got at the WFRCC comp they ran this year with their 777 buggy that hit 72.4mph with their 4.5HV. Any suggestions? I want a powerhouse and to absolutely smoke their record.
