My Jammin X-1 CR conversion

Been working on this on and off for the last few months. I did i crt.5 project in between, so this project has been on the backburner for a while. Now its nearly done! :yipi:
Its your basic Jammin X-1 CR conversion...:whistle: - MM / 8XL with 18/48 gearing - 4s 6000mah lipo (two 2s packs in series). - RC-Monster mount and ubec - Jimmy rigged battery holders using some spare C.F. and some random car parts. Its surprisingly strong. - custom body in the works by Dafni. :yes: I've just been putting the finishing touches on this over the last week.... added a fan, cleaned up the wiring, changed the wing, etc... Its all set to test, but its raining cats and dogs in Nor Cal right now. I hope to be able to get some good park testing in this weekend. Or maybe go to Sacremento for some track runs if time allows... :neutral: Anyways, thought I'd share pics of my progress so far. Sorry I don't have any build pics. No, but very similar. They are some random tires I got at my LHS's bargin bin. They had no branding on them... probably some OEM tires from china. The compound is med/hard, so its pulling bashing duties right now. I have some good proline tires for the track as well.

I got some solid testing in this weekend. We got a little break from the rain so I took it to the local park for some street runs and a little baseball diamond action. Everything surprisingly well! The buggy is quiet and smooth. Mike's motor mount is flawless... as expected. The mesh couldn't be smoother. It tops out at around 38mph on the street and a little less in grass. It kinda had me wishing for a little more top end, but right now its perfect for a med size 1/8th track, so I think I'm going to stick with the gearing for now. I can always change it later if needed. Like I said, test went smooth, but I did have a little heart stopper towards the end of the run. I had gotten the street and ballpark runs in as planned and was finishing off the session on the grass. Everything was going great, and I had some real nice rooster tails of loose grass flying around everywhere. The buggy was so planted I think I got a little too cocky.... I ran it it to about 80 yards away and then saw a splash and water tail coming out.... Now if you've never seen a grown man sprinting across a soccer field with a radio in his hand... its quite a funny sight. Especially if that man is a little out of shape... :oops: So I get to the buggy and its soaked. I had accidentally run through a puddle without seeing it. I turned everything off as quickly as possible and immediately went home to dry it off, and try to salvage the electronics. I took all the electronics apart, then proceeded to blow dry the hell out of everything. Luckily nothing was damaged and I was able to put everything back together last night. Whew... that was a close one. It would've been a world record for "how fast can your kill a r/c car". I think I used up a bit of karma on that one. :mdr: Anyways, everything is A-ok now and I can't wait to run it at a track. Its raining again, so I'll just have to wait a few days. |

Thanks! .... and about the gearing... I've got a some smaller pinions in the tool box, so If I need to gear down, its a quick change. Haven't been able to take it to the track yet, so I don't know for sure what the final gearing will be. I'll keep your ratio in mind though. Thanks.

Ok, got some solid runs in over the last few days. Hakan, you were right, I am over geared.
The thing runs like a bat out of hell, but I am getting hotter temps than I would like. After a run of about 10 minutes, I was getting temps of 175-180F for the 8XL, 140-145F for the MM, and 130F on the batteries. Ambient temps were in the low 80's F. I've got a fan on the MM and the rc-monster heatsink on the motor. I also noticed that the center diff needed some thicker oil, so I'll be addressing that tonight as well as changing to 16/48. should help a bit without loosing too much speed. I may have to put a fan on the motor, but I hope not. |

Just kidding, lol. Looks good! I'll tell you from my E x1, put the cf servo strap back on, it will prevent a lot of the flex in the steering mount. Or, you could get an aluminum mount. |

Hey wait... I thought I was the only one doing a conversion... :lol: Supra, do you have pics to yours? I think I saw it before... a while ago, but it may have been some other buggy. Anyways, these are awesome buggies. About the cf servo hold-down, I was thinking about that. I didn't think I would need it, but I can always cut it down to size and mount it back in there. I guess it wouldn't hurt. |

I made my own w/ some c.f. and spare parts.
Looks like Supra is using a modded traxxas batt holder for his. Or something similar. I got some modded traxxas battery holders from Kershaw designs for another project. check them out if you need a ready made battery tray. |
I just used some ae batt cups off of tower, but rschoi has the better idea.

Ok, so I got some great runs in last night with the rebuilt center diff and 16/48 gearing. Temps were well within reason... 158F for the motor, 127F for the esc, and 122F on the batteries after a 10 minute run at the park. Everything is great, except for the drop in top speed. Its still seemed to have enough for a med sized track, but kinda lacking for a large soccer field :neutral: I'm very tempted to get a better set-up, but with the MMM just on the horizon, this set-up will stay for a while.
