Lehner motor and MGM controller for my T3

I want to buy either a Basic 4200 or 5300 motor for my T3( I'm going to upgrade to a T4 in the future). I am going to be running on a 2s4p 8000mah LI-PO most of the time but I may get a 3s 11.1v in the future. Can the 5300 run safely on the 3s with it's higher KV?

I'm going to be racing with the 2s LI-PO. I am worried that the 4200 won't have enough power on 7.4v. I know the 5300 will be plenty powerful on 2s.

As for the controller. I'm thinking of getting the 8012, Is it worth the extra 30 bucks for the 120 amp over the 80amp? I don't want any heat issues running 20 minute mains competing againts Nitros, will the 80 amp be enough for these setups?

Thanks:)

The 5300 should be good on a 2s lipo pack. It could take a 3s, but after 20minutes of racing it would be hot. You could also look at the lehner XL motors, 5000XL + MGM12012 would have disgusting amounts of power in a T3 on 11.1v...

Come on Dude, its too much for the T3. Scoob I guess the 5300 is your best shot for the racing and a cooling fan for both the motor and controller with a proper gearing will surely help alot. Be confident and good luck. You'll most definitly show the Nitroists some real action.

The 5300 is very nice on 2s Lipo, but 3s will heat it up quite a bit. I also agree with the heatsink and fan comment. For extended run times, these items are crucial!

Also, welcome aboard, scoob!

Scoob 07.05.2005 08:47 PM

Thanks alot guys and thanks for the welcome Mike.

I guess I'll just go for the 5300 and 8012. Is it tough to set up a fan?

I'm probably going to have all the power I can handle with the 5300/2s LI-PO anyway.

RC-Monster Mike 07.05.2005 08:48 PM

fans are easy to set up. The 5300 on 2s Lipo will be quite a fast performer for sure.

Thanks again Mike. I noticed that the MGM 8012 is out of stock. Any idea when it will be available? I put the 5300 in my shopping cart and noticed the controllers were out. I'm going to wait and buy them at the same time.

Scoob 07.05.2005 09:05 PM

BTW: Do you sell fans?

RC-Monster Mike 07.05.2005 09:06 PM

I hope soon! I have been waiting for them for a couple weeks! No definate date, though. Sorry. I wish I had them in stock, as I have a few folks waiting patiently for them.

RC-Monster Mike 07.05.2005 09:08 PM

I sell fans on occasion, but I am out of stock until next week on the fans.

Hey scoob, you can go for the 9920 if you can pay a bit more bucks. Its much nicer than the mgm and it also includes a heatsink for cooling, but maybe you need to use a receiver battery to low down the cogging issue. I think that Mike still has them in stock.

captain harlock 07.06.2005 11:44 AM

Mike, how about designing a transversed heatsink for the two wheel drive off road machines? It would be amazing to build up this one along with the E-maxx heatsink that you already have.

RC-Monster Mike 07.06.2005 05:28 PM

My heatsink can be mounted almost anywhere. The design is small for this reason. The picture is actually a prototype. The production sinks have mounting slots almost all the way around the front, so it can be mounted on most any motor mount with the fins facing any direction you want. I also have built a new heatsink/clamp, to be released soon. It is essentially the same design as the first one, but larger to fit the "L" size motor perfectly and fit the "XL" motors a bit better.

Thanks Mike. I'll just wait then.

Captain- Thanks for the advice. That controller would be nice but I really don't want to have to run an RX pack if possible, Just one more thing to keep track of and take up space, get damaged ect. That is why I don't relly want to run a fan either, but I guess you can't have it all:)
