Actually BENT my Ext CRT .5 Chassis!!
Well, I hit up my local track, SoCal Raceway with MetalMan today (he ran his Hyper 8, and me my CRT .5). I ran for about an hour, and literally 5 minutes before MetalMan got there (he got there just before six, I was there at about four), I stuffed my front right tire into some PVC when landing a jump and broke an A-Arm and sheared a turnbuckle - a 4mm steel turnbuckle. :oh:
However, before this I landed on the crest of the third hump on the triple there and actually tweaked my chassis. Its not like, "bent bent", but you can tell its not flat and straight anymore.:surprised: In one way I felt a bit of me die, and in another way I sort of don't care (its not really gonna affect much if you ask me). Though I am rather impressed, and also somewhat annoyed about how easily this happened, since the chassis is milled from 1/8 inch 7075!!!:whip: :grrrrrr: However, on the plus side, MetalMan brought his CRT .5 (but he had popped the endbell on his motor and is waiting on a Neu he ordered from Mike - well, waiting for Mike to get it from Neu, that is) and he let me cannibalize his truck so I could get running again:mdr: (thanks MetalMan!). Also, I checked out a camera from school, since I'm part of the digital video production class/team (which is pretty exclusive - you have to apply to get on it, and its only about 30 people). Its a very high quality camera (costs like $1300+). All in all, we got about 20 minutes of footage, so I'll edit that down and post it up when I get a chance. I know I'll be ordering some parts though, and keeping some spares. However, the CRT is one heck of a truck. I still need to do a few tweaks to suspension and other stuff... Most of the runtime was 2S Lipo, which is probably the best for the track. 3S is absolutely ballistic. With better tires and more practice, I could probably run 3S on the track consistently, and just annihilate everything else. But today, 3S was just too much (I hadn't driven on a track, or generally driven an RC for about a year, so I was quite rusty). Plus, to add to it, I was having problems overclearing stuff on 2S, you can imagine what it was like on 3S! I have learned two important lessons from this track day (its better to over jump than under jump (bending your chassis on the crest of a lump is WAY worse than having some chassis slap...), and also to carry some spares! Apparently the little CRT isn't as strong as my G2R... (not even clipping concrete at full speed was enough to do anything more than make it spin out). |
BP only wishes his CRT.5 were as strong as my Hyper 8 . I smacked into many a jump, and pummelled into PVC like I was trying to. However, nothing broke... Other than one of my velcro battery straps coming undone, which happened several times. That Hyper 8 really is too big for this 1/10 track, but it's fune driving it there anyways . You guys will see what I mean once the video is uploaded.
As for BP's truck, it reminded me a bit of my CRT.5 when I raced it at that track... Bowties don't hook up well enough, so the truck slides more than I personally prefer, which was of course accentuated by the over-powered-ness when BP ran 3s Lipo. |

Sounds like a lot of fun guys. I can also comment that a 1/8 buggy is a little big for the track, but definitely still fun.
Next time you guys hit up SoCal Raceway, please PM me. Today I had a chance to go up to Huntington Beach, but decided to stay home to run my Revo. I could have even brought my Revo and "attempted" to run it on that track. LOL Looking forward to the video. I think a way to prevent the chassis bending was to get a larger chassis brace like Mike I had on his CRT.5 (I think it was him who had the brace). |
How long does it take you to get to HB?
|
oh no!
thats to bad, i can imagine it was a huge hit , but i wonder if extra or a longer front brace would have even helped?? i still will be running this chassis no matter what, its just part of the fun:rules: |
Maybe an hour, or an hour and 15 minutes with some traffic. But the freeways are usually pretty clear going towards HB, sot he drive isn't too bad.
|
Huh, bent that chassis........ That sucks
I cant wait for vid =D |
Yea...I know...
The hit was "hard," but I wouldn't have thought it would have bent from that hit - I thought it would have taken a harder hit...but oh well. Its the rear thats tweaked, not the front. Its barely noticeable...but noticeable nonetheless. I'll edit the vid tonight - it'll probably get posted up tomorrow. |
