Welcome to the forums, Maxxbear! I am not quite understanding the problem you are describing. Not enough room to screw down what? The pinion? E-maxx I assume? Stock motor mounting location?

I guess I know what you're talking about: Not enough room to get to the set-screw on the pinion.

When I first run a BL on my stock motorplate, I always took the motor off for pinion changes. But without modifications you can only get a 16t thru the hole. So I milled a slot into the plate, to make room for the wrench.
If you look closely, you see it here (too bad the motorplate is in the blurred background, but it's the best pic I have at the moment)

Works well, the plate itself is like 3mm, and I milled a 2mm slot.

Hope this helps
