For the CRT.5, any of the MM motors will get too hot IMO. You'd be better off running an L size motor with a 3s lipo. The maxamps 5Ah 3s pack would work nicely.

Don't know about the X1. But I'd shoot for a XL size motor. And since you're running the MM ESC, you can only go up to 4s lipo, so that somewhat limits your motor choices to something in the 2400 kv range.

For the CRT.5, this is what I would choose for a limited budget:
Mamba Max (MM) ESC
Feigao 9L or Feigao 8L
Maxamps 3s 5000mah 20C Lipo
Castle Creations BEC
I realize that's pretty much what BrianG said, but it is a good setup.

I used a MM 4600 and a 5700 on my CRT.5 and they worked great. Id recommend the 4600 on it over the 5700 and you will still have plenty o' speed.

Here are some pics of my build. I used a normal sized lipo on the left side of the truck and it held in great with industrial velcro that can be found at walmart. I even had it where a strap could be used in addition to that.

Brian, have you (or anyone else) tried the 4600 on 3s and gear it way down?

It sure seems the MM motors should work fine in what is basicly a 1/10 4wd buggy. I don't recall the temps you were getting?

BrianG 11.01.2007 11:45 PM

Well, I have mine (with the 4600) geared down to 12T and it still gets too hot for my liking, even on 2s. ESC was around 145-150 and the motor is around 160. Temps would probably be better now that it's getting colder out. I know that some would say those are ok, but I like them at no higher than 140*F - I'm just funny that way (and I won't use a fan).

glassdoctor 11.01.2007 11:51 PM

If that's after a decent run (not just a few minutes messing around) I would be happy with that. You don't want to know how hot my MM/7700 gets in my XX4. 140-160 is cold by comparison ha ha

I think I have seen temps like that (140-160) even in my B4 on a full pack, hard run.

Emuggy 11.01.2007 11:53 PM

I ran the 4600 on a 2s and 3s on the crt conversion with a 10t pinion and temps were fine for me. I also had the ESC settings sdjusted to mid range I believe on most settings.

BrianG 11.01.2007 11:59 PM

Those temps were after a full 5Ah battery discharge, so about 1/2-3/4 hour at a guess. Lol, yeah, I pretty fussy when it comes to temps.

All I currently have are 2s packs, so I don't want to go lower than 12T. If I were to get 3s packs, I could try 10T, but I'd rather just get a different motor (L size) so that I have more gearing options and so I can use larger 2.2" tires.

Hey t-maxx racer, did you do a build-up with videos on beat-your-truck of this crt.5? It looks just like the crt.5 in the video that was filmed in "3B". Not sure if that was you or you bought it from the guy who originally did the video. I saw this crt.5 on ebay a few times and eventually it sold.

I tend to agree w/ Brian. I have had excelent success with a Hacker 8L on 3300mah 3s lipo. Great temps more power than the little buggy can handle and mid 45mph speeds. I havent tried the MM motors, but I prefer a very cool running system as well. I would rather go with a bigger motor with a lower KV rating and higher voltage. Everything runs cooler and you can adjust your top speeds with gearing and the system will handle it better.

For the X1 CRT go with a Lehner 1950/6 and you will get great results. The Lehners are hard to find here in the USA, but I hear that they are much easier to come by in Europe. Short of the Lehner any XL size motor 2200 - 2600KV should run well in the X1 CRT on 4s. Just aviod motors with mor than 4 poles with the Mamba. It doesnt really work that well with some higher pole count motors. Although, I have heard that it runs the Plettenburg motors pretty well. So a Big Maximum migh be another good chioce.

My ESC, Battery, and Motor temps on my CRT .5 have never exceeded 100* :intello: - and thats with running 3S lipo through the MM's on board BEC!!! Temps should drop down quite a bit when I put on the CC BEC.

remikirk 11.02.2007 03:32 AM

ok , many thanks.
but what's the maximum size lipo for my crt.5 ? lipo 2S is the maximum , no ? 3S is great ?
for my MM 6900 , what pinion ? 10,11,12,13 ?
