Smoked Quark, Works perfect
Hi all, Check this out, I could not get my Quark to beep (program) so I hooked a battery pack to see if it was the UBEC and it smoked bad :surprised:. and I had not got to run this $275 esc yet and I was feeling bad  and mad :grrrrrr:. It should not have smoked, Because the battery was 7 volts and I double checked the wiring. Anyway now the good part :yipi: I read here that the motor has to be hooked up even though the instructions say not to?? So I hooked it all up using the UBEC and when I tried to program it. It Beeped :surprised: So I programed it and it works perfect :yipi: Well almost perfect, I can't get the reverse to work. (probably the operator ) I am assuming I burned the internal BEC see pictures below. The burned part is at the left under the two large black squares. Can someone tell me why I can't get reverse?? And should I get the 125 fixed?? I guess an  was with me that day :happy:
Thanks |
Well, the motor HAS to be hooked up or the beeps won't sound. And, IIRC, the manual says to hook up the motor, but disconnect the pinion.
I don't think it was voltage that burnt the BEC; it was probably shorted or something and the overcurrent is what blew it. Makes sense that it works when you use a UBEC (as long as you don't remove the red wire) since you're basically powering the brains via the UBEC. As a matter of fact, I've thought about disabling the BEC circuit altogether so it would run cooler. Not sure why you don't have reverse though, unless the Tx wasn't calibrated right and/or the settings weren't programmed right. Make sure your radio throttle EPA is set to 100% (or even higher) in both directions and the throttle trim is set to 0. |
Ouch! Something like that happened to my Quark the first time I tried it... mine had catastrophic failure mode, however!
Yes, I would try reprogramming the esc, sometimes it doesn't work right when setting min/max EPA. |

When I read " The motor should not be connected to the drive train during programming" I mis understood  I guess I need a wake up call :slap:  . But I have the red wire unhooked because it says "OPTO modification must be applied when using batteries above 10 cells Ni-MH or 4 cell Li-Poly. and it shows the plug and says to disconnect the red wire." Am I mis understanding this?? I read here on this forum a thread titled "Quark 125B" by ALL BRUSHED UP. For more info. But I think I am just getting more confused  BTW I have set my EPA on my MX3 |

...nothing
It did it right when I received it (it was a replacement unit), so I sent it back again, and they also sent a free BEC (Pro-BEC, made by S&T) which was nice of them. |
I have heard nothing but good things about Quark customer service.
year 2012 Yes I am ready! |

About your reversing problem, mine is buggy at best also, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't... not sure what the deal is with it but as long as it's got brakes I guess I'm happy.

hey actually when i dissisamboled it it did not look black or burnt anywhere. i have been building this truck for about 1.5 years now and today i got the motor hooked up and programed the esc. i was so amazed at its power. it was crazy almost to fast and after 3 min the controller caught fire and smoked like a fog machine. i will be waiting untill summer to drive it again.

contact quark service they will hook you up

I agree. Send it in to Quark. I have heard that they are very good about things like this. They just replace it from what I have heard.

My experence with quark has been great.
Did you try the double pump for reverse? I got mine set for push reverse twice to work. |
