teknos electri clutch
I have an erevo with an emaxx tranny but I really want to go to the revo tranny. The tekno conversion looks nice, because it comes with everything I would need(well beside the tranny) but I dont really know if I like the idea of a clutch on an electric. Thats one of the reasons I like electric so much is the pop is always there, and you have instant wheelies. My question is do you have to run the electri clutch or can you still use mod 1 pinions with the tekno kit.
also If anyone wants to trade a revo tranny for an emaxx tranny with steel idlers and a RR slipper PLEASE pm me. I also have a steel axle to go along with it. |
What you should do is get Mikes mount since the Tekno won't allow standard pinions and get the Tekno battery tray, ESC mount (I would make my own instead since its $25), the straps, and the rx box/throttle servo mount. Thats right about $140 with the ESC mount and $115 without.

The mod one pinions won't work, the Tekno motor mount sits too far back. You will still have wheelies with the clutch, it is a very nice system, plenty of "pop". But if you decide to go with a direct drive setup you can still get the other parts of the Tekno kit separately and use Mike's RC-Monster motor mount. Good luck:mdr:

What do you guys think the results would be if I took the springs out of the clutch?

A clutch and electric make no sense IMO.
It's taking out a turbo of a turbo diesel engine.. it produces heat which decreases runtime, it takes of the kicking edge in starttorque, it adds maintenance, it makes it more comparable with nitro in terms of drive-style. not saying it won't be fun to drive |
I custom made one of these for my Losi 8 because the ESC I was using could not handle the amp draw needed for startups. The smaller motor/esc performed very well and felt and performed "like" a nitro. I removed the clutch springs and used 4 clutch shoes for maximium grip/engagement. I wouldn't neccessarily recommend this unless you are trying to reduce cogging, reduce the amps needed during startup, or attempting to reduce the wear on metal to metal pinion/spur gears.
|
Yeah, i can imagine it would reduce startup power. but this also means it accelerates less quick (not saying you need the full power to accelerate)
|
The electric clutch felt just like I was driving a nitro. Its rather smooth really but quite loud I must say. Between the metal gears and the clutch shoes grabbing the bell, it was scratch/clang city with a spark every now and then. Thats what you get with poorly centered gears...
I would say that the speed off the line is most effected by the clutch but once the vehicle reaches a "coast" speed, take off power is right there when needed. With the clutch springs removed, the startup speed was still faster than the nitro's. It was a fun project but I like direct drive transmissions better. |
I think im going to go for mikes mount and all the rest tekno stuff like you guys suggested. Besides the esc mount, because I already have a mount(I mounted my esc to my emaxx tranny)
at tekno I came up to 53.80 and at mikes store I came up to 84 thats with 2 mod 1 pinions. which 2 should I get(I run an 8/10xl on a 10.5lb truck. I want to get about 38-40 with the 8xl and about 35 with the 10xl)I run 4s of true rc 6400mah I usaully run the 8xl but when it gets hot I run the 10xl to help my MM and the feigao. On another note will the 10xl run on 5s? and I wouldnt do that to my MM but my bk 9920 just smoked but I think I might beable to fix it. |
I went ahead and ordered my stuff and I went with a 17t pinon for my 10xl. Does that sound about right on 4s?
I still need a revo tranny but im looking around ebay. I would really like to find someone else doing a revo converion that wants an emaxx tranny because that would work out perfect for both of us. |
Try out this speed calculator to figure out the gearing you need:
http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html |
it puts me at around 30-35 depending on my spur gear(at nominal voltage) but thats without tire balloonig.
I really think thats pretty accurate without the tire ballooning because of the voltage drop. better than my old setup that pulled up 23mph on the calculator. just doesnt seem right but I will belive anything. but if my revo was going 23 my 7700k/v rustler must only go like 35. IDK and really IDC because they are both fun. Im just tired of shifting with my mx3 radio because the 3rd channel is in a horrible spot(its on top of the radio)and I have heard that the revo tranny is stronger but the emaxx tranny never gave me trouble. Its my diffs that do that. maybe its was my low gearing(15/66) |

I gonna use a 8XL on 4s like teknorc suggested. I hope it will not go too hot
