Next BL Project
 

I am looking for some ideas for a new BL project. I have a nice BL T4 and out of this world BL TC4. I was thinking of doing a BL monster truck. What should I consider? Do I have to use an EMAXX? I love to build but I am not a great fabricator of totally custom parts. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
I was even looking at the TRAXXAS BL boat!!

Get an E-maxx its great alota aftermarket parts for it
easier to get replacement parts for it than any other MTs
I have one and have a HV-maxx on and its fast
even tho its a "mild" BL still quik

plus you can get all your parts here from Mike

i got a BL savage, did a HB lighting conversion (nitro to BL) and so far, i simple love the e-maxx. it is built so nice and simple.. it is a league on it's own and with the hopups you can buy, you can create your own unique maxx. I build mine from scratch.

Do I start with a new or used Emaxx and go from there? Some of the aftermarket chassis kits look amazing.

I agree that the E-Maxx is the monster truck with the most options for going brushless, but there are always other considerations for a new project.
I have threads on the forums here for both an OFNA 1/8th scale buggy turned brushless and an Associated MGT turned brushless.
The MGT has nowhere near the amount of hopups/upgrades as the Maxx trucks, but was a suprisingly easy conversion. Not counting the speed control/motor/pinion gear, it cost me less than $1 and no fabrication of parts or drilling/physical modification to stock parts to make a brushless MGT that gets to the mid-20s with a Feigao 8L on 8 nimh cells. It literally took 2 zip-ties and 3 15" velcro straps. To be fair, the zip-ties should (and will) be replaced with a proper motor mount, but I have had zero problems in about 2 hours of runtime.

that depends on what you want Matt.. if you want a full hopped up maxx, your better of building it from zero. If you are planning on getting some hopups, i personally would buy a new one, and if you want it BL, sell the electronics on Ebay (worth some money as well) a 2nd hand maxx... I don't know.. if you know the history and the owner, you could consider one, but a new one is.. well it's new.. if you break anything, replace it for a hopup..

I'd say the XTM XLB is a prime candidate for conversion.you'd have to make a motor plate but you could probably adapt an e-maxx or g-maxx plate.Plenty of room for cells for a very HV set up.
It comes with a solid centre unit as standard but there's a centre diff available.Another advantage is you could use mechanical brakes.

I agree that the xtm xlb would be a great conversion project. I have never seen one in person, though. If it is nice and durable, it would make for a sweet high voltage brushless conversion!

Carson seem to have the same car and both companies have on-road versions of the same chassis.

The UK HARM distributor is near here so i might see if i can check one out.
