Spark when connect ESC
 

When i connect my MGM 16018 to my 4s pack, i always have spark when i connect the red wire. I use 5.5mm bullet connector (but same thing occure with Deans), and i always connect the black first, then red, and spark always occure when i conncet red. I know it's normal, but this is dangerous for the controler?

I've read in the MGM manual, that we can install a resistor on the red wire and connect the resistor first to avoid the spark.

Is somebody here do this or everybody don't take care about this?

Mine always sparked no matter what I did... I'm guessing the only damage it would do is wear out the connectors faster...

That's what i think. I'll probably try the resistor tips, just to see if it's better.

its just charging the caps, i wouldn't worry about it.

Probably that the resistor charge the caps slowly ro at a lower voltage, so minimize the spark

there is another way tht involves two + (RED) connectors. just do a splin from the red wire with very small conector both on ESC and battery side. Connect - then the small + and then regular +. the small connector will limit currect going into caps eliminating the charge spark. MGM has this on their web site as well somewhere

It's completely normal;

The internal resistance of the capacitors is ~0 ohm when they are 0V, that's why they spark.

To protect the plugs, you can simple add an extra small 2mm plug to the + pole. First you hook up the - pole, than the small 2mm plug, which gets the punishment, then the big high current plug. You can also simple replace the plugs every now and then.

So for you the resistor is not necessary, just the extra little 2mm plug is enough?
Is this tips that MGM give on there web site is only to protect the main plug against the spark and prolonge the live of the plug or it's to protect the controller?

You guys should see the sparks I get with my HV setup. In my last video you might be able to here a little pop, but that was with just 22.2V :lol:.

I did the resistor on my 16024. Got the resistor and neg on a deans and pos on a 5.5mm plug. I plug in the deans first with no spark, then plug in the 5.5mm. I can still charge the pack through the deans (resistor on ESC side), since all my packs and chargers have deans.
