cogging

You all talk about cogging w/the mm esc a lot. For now I just installed it in my mbx-5 w/ a Feigao 9xl . First, exactly what is it and how can i prevent it or correct the prob. when it happens.

You'll never have cogging on MM/Feigao setup (if you have, it's because you're wayyyyyyyyyyyy tohigh gearing).
The cogging with MM is when you use it with more than 2 pôles motor, like Neu. But i've tr my Neu 1515 1Y with MM with very good result.

You should be okay with the MM and Feigao 9xl combo...I didn't see any cogging when I tried that setup. But if you do see cogging (sort of like stuttering at take off), you can use a smaller pinion and/or adjust the time on your MM controller. Don't forget to also keep an eye on your temps...changing the pinion size will influence your temps...follow the guidance in BatFish's thread:

Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice...soon enough I WILL UPGRADE!!!

FYI: It's not the number of poles per se that the MM has trouble with, it's if the motor uses a slotted stator (basically means if each coil is wrapped around a metal "core" as opposed to an "air core", like the Feigaos). Neu motors and the Novak motors are slotted stator motors, so both can have issues with the MM ESC. This can be overcome with some conservative gearing and/or changing some of the settings in the ESC though...

I can attest to this, my MM with a neu 1515 and a novak hv6.5 both have pretty bad start-up cogging(can not nail it from the get go). But, I just put in a mega ACn car motor(4580kv) which is a 6 pole and can absolutely nail the throttle from a dead stop and have no cogging at all. It runs as good as novak sensored motors and esc if not better(meaning more torque).
