80 amp mgm esc

anyone using the 80 amp esc from mgm w/ success and it says it can handle 4s li-po, any truth to this?

what vehicle? what speed do you want to achieve?

A friend of mine wants to buy it for a e-maxx ... not sure if it was a good idea so I thought i would ask you guys...I think that the truck would be too heavy..He has upgraded his truck to mostly aluminum parts,,,

He would like to get 35 or so out of the truck

Any idea what motor he want's to use? for 35mph it should be okay, depending on the motor.

magman 01.06.2008 11:19 AM

I believe he is looking into a 8 or 9xl Feigao possibly a 10xl

magman 01.06.2008 11:21 AM

my thought to him was buy the bigger esc so there are no worries...but he is limited on funds

Serum 01.06.2008 11:22 AM

9XL, and geared for ~35 mph would be okay, i geared over the moon, it might take some more current though!

But for 4S, he should also be okay with the mamba-maxx.

is the mgm a better esc ?

I am saving for a 160amp one for my mugen

Serum 01.06.2008 11:26 AM

Yeah, with the 160A it's a good controller. But the mamba-maxx is unbeatable for the price. the 160A is able to handle way more current though. So it would greatly depend on the gearing/speed.

I am running a 3s w/ my mm right now..w/a Feigao 8xl (16/46) and am a little concerned about upping to a 4s ... I do use a fan on the mm and it seems to help keep it cool enough

Don't worry, on 4s, your MM will drain less current.

I've melted two MM on 4s through - one in a MBX5T and one in a revo :( - Both were 4s with an UBEC and fans on them....

jnev 01.06.2008 02:37 PM

I have been running a MM ESC on 4s with a UBEC and fan on the ESC for about a year now, and in two different vehicles (1/8 buggy and now Revo) and it performed flawlessly in both with no hiccups what-so-ever.

I know... Maybe overgeared and need to take the speed back a bit?

Also wondering if I should resolder the motor leads - Would that impact it?

magman 01.06.2008 03:57 PM

If I want to be conservative w/my mm, i run 16/46 now, if I ran a 14 pinion that should "help" be more conservative ( I also use a ubec as well)
