Gorillamaxx chassis T-MAXX...

I like my gorillamaxx brushless E-maxx and how it handles so much that I decided to transform my T-maxx to a gorillamaxx Chassis. this way the weight of the fuel tank, rx, battery pack and bottom plate could be lowered 1 3/4" this adds up to 450g with fuel. Also the tranny and servo's would be lowered another 1/2" (250g)... And by running Gorillamaxx shock towers I can lower the body and 4 shocks another 3/4" lower than stock (250g) I think this will all add up to pretty good performance on the track and maybe scare a few truggies as all this will add up to a light T-maxx tipping the scale at around 3300g (7.25 lbs) RTR with racing tires and fuel. Only problem is I can't use a bumpstart as i'll mount the engine on the back top plate of the gorilla chassis, but it sure is going to be nice to show something different at the local track on race day! I'm starting this project asap and will post pics when I'm done!

So what do you guys think? dont be afraid to speek up and bash me if you want to! lol

Sounds interesting but how about making it dual or quad brushless?

suicideneil 01.09.2008 02:53 PM

I think its safe to say its never been tried before, at least not that Im aware of. Assuming the stock T-maxx tranny will mount where the normal Emaxx tranny goes, and you can get the engines clutch bell to mesh correctly, then in theory it will work. Pics will most definately be required.....

Arct1k,

I already have a brushless gorillamaxx but Only a single motor lol... So I want to try this project with nitro. Quad brushless...ish i dont want to break landspeed records here...that's Johnny Maxxima's job for now :O)

suicideneil,

After calculating clearance on my gorilla e-maxx i'm pretty sure it will fit but I need tu change my old tranny to a revo spec's slipper and use smaller revo's spur and clutchbell. The pics will be posted for sure :O)

squeeforever 01.09.2008 06:55 PM

It think it will work nicely. One think you could do is try and contact George at GM and ask him if he can get you a bottom plate without the battery slots.

superlightmaxx 01.09.2008 08:34 PM

Thanks Squeeforever! I'll start with my spare one and if I like the result I'll probably "try" to make a carbon fiber one without the battery slots probably 2mm instead of 3mm to save weight since it's going to be a full plate and dont need to be that strong since it's not holding 2lbs of batteries and i'm not hard on my machines. :O)

squeeforever 01.09.2008 10:15 PM

Making one won't be hard. A scroll saw and the one you have clamped to a piece of CF will make it rather easy.

superlightmaxx 01.10.2008 03:52 PM

I just bought a Revo tranny for 15$ (originally bought just for the slipper assembly) and found out it would fit on the gorilla chassis (just 2mm of lenght-wise). Witch one should I use? the original t-maxx tranny or the Revo's? witch one is strongest? Engine is an OS 18MT

where is this world going to!? converting Electric to nitro... it can't be pure air you are inhaling at this moment..

suicideneil 01.10.2008 06:19 PM

ROFL! Welcome to the twilight zone.....
Speaking of solid bottom plates, someone was selling a G2 chassis only a week or so ago which had a solid lexan sheet 3mm thick for the bottom plate- that would have been perfect. Never mind, it will be easy to trace around the existing one and mark the screw hole posistions.

Serum 01.10.2008 06:24 PM

yeah, it's fair easy, but the low cg makes it tricky to add the motor/gearbox..

superlightmaxx 01.10.2008 07:57 PM

Serum,

I'm not converting my electric to Nitro! I'm not that stupid... I'm still keeping my brushless gorillamaxx E-maxx! What I'm doing is converting my T-maxx to a gorillamaxx chassis. Lower CG, better handling, weight saving and a nice ride it will make, at least I think so! lol I still run nitro whenever I fell like spending all day cleaning my truck after my run or feel like playing with a flathead for a while while tuning the engine... lol Don't worry guys my favorite is STILL and will alway's be ELECTRIC...

superlightmaxx 01.10.2008 07:59 PM

Does this mean I won't be allowed to post post-operation pics of my
Gorilla T-maxx because it's nitro??? :O)

suicideneil 01.11.2008 09:04 AM

Lol, we preach tolerance and acceptance on this forum, so even a nitro build is welcomed....

superlightmaxx 01.19.2008 10:21 PM

well so far so good with this project! Everything is working as planned! will post pics asap. I want to make a custom lower aluminium plate as I really dont like the battery slotted one I have right now! I also want to remove the ez start to lose the weight
