Project Race Gorillamaxx G3R
Hi everyone! This is my little project for the winter season (have to do something beside driving Mini-Z) and hopefully it will be done before 23 February. It's a big race for 1:10 TC, 1:10 off-road and 1:12 track here then and i have been asked to come and show off my build. But if it's not ready then (due to me being a student and this project costing a lot of money) i will have it race ready at the beginning of the summer!
Anyway, the main parts in this project will be: Gorillamaxx G3R, Novak HV-Maxx 4.5 (will probably get changed to a MMM when they comes out), Hitec HS-5965MG servos, MaxAmps 2S2P 6000mAh batteries, Nomadio React (with all the sensors in use), RC-Monster Revo hybrid diffs and a E-Maxx 2-speed trany. Besides that there will be mostly original Traxxas and Integy alloy parts. The driveshafts however is not determined yet, but they will probably be THS Racing CVD's. But now, some pictures instead of me writing bad English. http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9...2008497cp6.jpg This is how far i have come for the moment. There should have been 4 steeringblocks, but something went wrong with my towerhobbies order and changed everything to one of each. :oh: But that's not an big issue, ill just order 2 more in my next order. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7...2008501xn5.jpg My new radio, i really do love it! It's great! It gives a very good feeling and makes you almost feel like your in the car driving. I have had and tested a lot of different radios under my 13 years in R/C, and this one is probably the best so far. I really love the ability to see motor-temp/RPM, ESC-temp, Batt-voltage and speed on my radio. :mdr: I will probably put up some more pictures later today and make some orders for missing parts on the truck. So stay tuned for some updates! // Christoffer - Sweden |
1. Ooh nice, CF really does look great with a few silver parts in certain places.
2. Your english is better than most of the guys over on the Traxxas forum- you even know where to use commas and fullstops unlike them! :mdr: Good luck with the build, looks great so far. |
Oh thank you. :) Yea i really like the natural alu parts on top of the CF. But there will be some purple parts also to make it a little more custom. So my problem now is to find purple or black dust boots for the steeringblocks/pivotballs instead of the blue Traxxas ones. Anyone who has any idea where to find?
|
You can use a black marker to color the boots black
|
Hmm... yea, that might work... Maybe ill try that, good idea! But still it would be nicer to get some that are already colored. I thought about buying some spares for the THS Racing driveshafts, but i cant seem to find them. But i think they would look nice since i'm going to use their driveshafts, i think.
|
Just dye em. A marker doesn't do that good a job.

My initial build of my G2R was very much like yours. However, I used a HV 6.5 system, not a 4.5 (I did later upgrade to a 4.5 though).
Anyway, my suggestion is to get rid of the 2 speed for a GorillaMaxx Single Speed. Its a much better setup. The 2 speed honestly isn't too usable with brushless (I know this from experience). As for servo's, just buy a single 5955TG for steering. Thats all you should ever need, and it will never break. Since you said "servos" I'm assuming you are buying two 5965's, which is a waste. A single 5955TG will be plenty. Otherwise, looks great. |
Thank you. Well i think ill stick to the 2speed transmission since i like to use it as a crawler in my backyard, and the motor will get very hot using the second gear then. So ill stick to it for now at least, maybe ill upgrade it to a V2 slipperential later on.
And about that servo, 5955TG, it's to slow for me. Im used to drive Mini-Zs and have a very direct steering, therefore i would like to use two weaker but faster servos instead of one slower and stronger. And also, i like the look of two servos. So i think ill stick to them at least for a while. But who knows, maybe i will do it even more track worthy later on... |
Kul att se dig här :-) Sweet ride !
|
Isnt there a JR servo I think 8711 that has 403 oz/in of torqe
|
Haha detsamma! :surprised: Tackar tackar. I can tell you that i have a set of Traxxas GTR pro shocks on their way home now. :mdr: I hope to get them this week, cant wait to see them on the truck!
|
Looks like a great project! Good luck on the build!
|
your revo looks really nice..
how is the nomadio react? |
I understand what you are saying about the servo speeds, but I can GUARANTEE you that the two servo's combined will be no faster than the 5955TG...
The speeds are under no load, and steering creates quite a bit of load - enough load as to where the speeds will be no where near the servo's rating... For steering, torque is ALWAYS more important than speed unless speed is slower than like half a second or so, but the slowest servo I know of is still .25 seconds. Your choice though. Also, I'm not sure why you are using a G3R to crawl, the truggy style chassis will get hung up on just about anything... |
I agree BP, the G3R would be a useless crawling chassis. ONe strong servo can turn faster than two fast ones. If the fast servos turn fast, that is good, but it will not matter if they don't carry enough torque to obtain the speed.
