Brushless Gearing Question
 

I have a question about the right gearing for my G Maxx. I plan to get a 7xl with a 9920 controler. I have the following truck.

G3 suspension
G2 Chassis
Stock trans with steel idlers
UE Center bone
Proline CVDs all around
MSR5 Shocks
Fastlane Bulkless
Fastlane Diff cups and other
Robinson Racing Spur slipper

I run 14 cells most of the time. I don't really race, just play in the back yard. I want a good combo of low and high end. I thought about the one speed conversion, but I still want to have the first gear to play in the hills.

I have a 66t and a 74t spur gear at the current time. I also have a 13t pinion and a 19t pinion.

What should I run with the brushless system I plan to buy when Mike gets them in stock?

I currently have a Novak HV, but I burnt it up with the wrong gearing. So, I'm a little timid about gearing!!

I'm new, so I am still learning.

Dafni's using the equivalent of 14/51 with the 7xl/9920
on 14 cells with nice low temps.
That works out at about 18.3:66 so your 19/66 should be a very good starting point.
I plan to start with 15/51 when my 7xl/9920 eventually shows up.also on 14 cells.:D

I ran the 7xl with 22p 66 spur. 14 lb gmaxx. It ran a little warm but i was also running 14 cells. Run your 19 66 and you should be good.

Correction i was running 18 cells. sorry.

If your going to use 32p gears i recomend not using the stock slipper with pegs. I would get a kippster, or robinson slipper they can handle brushless power better . Or you can go mod 1 and buy the strobe slipper from mike.

That stock slipper don't hold the 7xl very well. You sound like you talk form experence there hippie.

LOL!!! the stock did'nt hold my lehner 3100xl, so i figuare with all the torque of the 7xl it would'nt stand a chance.:eek:

Don't worry i learned to. LOL I had a 7xl. Sad to say it is not with me no more. :-(

The Strobe slipper is hands down the best maxx slipper available. The kippster was about the same, but with 32 pitch gears (the kippster slipper assembly was just like the strobe and worked excellent, but it used Robinson slipper spur gears, which are a bit weak) and is no longer available to my knowledge. The robinson is OK for a lighter truck with decent power, but a high power/heavy truck causes it to be a bit inconsistant. The spur gears are a bit weak as well(already mentioned).

My stock slipper (12 pegs) is holding up fine to a 2000XL on 18cells. Many a time have I flipped it in second gear from a standing start and the slipper hasn't budged.

The 7XL on 18 cells is a bigger load for the slipper and gears than an XL motor. But the best slipper available is the MOD1 from Strobe.

The stock slipper with 12 pegs and a strong arm to crank it down will hold up just fine. It just doesn't allow any tuning options or the ability to have it "slip" to spare drive train parts.

Wasn't slipping the big thing with those slippers?

When you make BIG POWER the stock slipper is junk. Don't care how many pegs you use or how tight you make the slipper. The stock slipper in my truck wouldn't even last one pack before it would burn the center out of the spur gear.
The strobe slipper was a huge step forward for these trucks.
