outrunner for Revo on 4s ?
Hey all. i'm interested in giving an outrunner a shot. Are there any inexpensive outrunners with KV's close to 2k that will be heavy enough for a Revo ? I'm only running 4s, so I'm sure that limits my outrunner options immensely. I used the motor selector and determined I need a KV from 1800 - 2200 or therabouts. If it's a bit lower KV, I can always gear up a bit I suppose.
Any ideas ? J. |
A 2200kv is spinning too fast on 4s Lipo,it is good for a 2s Setup. In general, you shouldn't take cheapo outrunners above 15000rpm and the better ones (AXI....) above 20000rpm. So look for a 1000kv outrunner on 4s Lipo and use largest pinion and the smallest spur gear you can find.

any recommendations ? AXI ? Has anyone tried the GP rimfire outrunners in a conversion?

You could use an AXI 2826/10, sikeston34m is using it in his E-Maxx on 4s Lipo with success: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9493

+1 for the axi outrunners, for the price they are an excellent deal. I am very impressed with the construction quality. You should go with the 2826/10 it is a good motor for what you are looking to do. The 2826 is the stator diameter and length, the 10 is the number of turns. Longer stator-26- equals more torque in the smae diameter-28-. The 28 series have 5mm shafts and a 540 bolt battern, so they are a direct bolt in for a std motor mount.

sweet, thanks. You think I would be happy with it compared to say a Feigao 8-9xl ? I can run it on the MM or Quark 125b.

On 5s lipo it will be good, the MM does not like outrunners, so the quark is your best bet.

This should work nicely. Just ask Sikston. He has my old one and loves it. I wish I never sold it to be honest. Great on 4 or 5s. |

I also notice it has a 3mm shaft. All my 32p and Mod1 pinions are 5mm. Know of anything similar with a 5mm shaft ??? J. |
The crazy thing about that motor is its based on a 5mm shaft and its turned down to 3mm where the pinion goes on it. I think they were aligning it to work with stock emaxx pinions.
I think like most outrunners its just a matter of losening a set screw that holds the shaft in place and replacing it with a 5mm shaft that isnt turned down on the pinion end. Should be easy to do if you can find a 5mm piece of rod and cut it to length. I could be wrong on that, but I think that is the case on most Outrunners. |
hmm. i have 5mm shafts from a couple burnt up ammo's. I wonder if that would work ?

I've seen a few outrunners on MM controllers. Not personally, but on the forums and such. Would something like this be much too small ?? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2128 And has anyone tried these hybrid's yet ? Looks interesting, and the price is very attractive... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5422 J. |
The gold outrunner is too small. When looking for a motor for your revo, keep the motor weight at least 8 ounces (224gm) IMO, if not 10 ounces.

I would like to see some of those UH hybrid outrunners in action. I tried both align 600l and xl on 5s and they worked well for me in my old emaxx. They are around 1600kv and work well with a quark controller.
