help thermaling mgm 60
today i went and run my T4 to see how fast it is with the new setup, this was the first high speed test. unfortualitly after abut 5 min of running( about 3 high speed passes in a big parking lot) it went into protection. so i have a mgm 60 and a 4200 combo running 8 cells. my question is, is this normal should this be happaning, is 8 cells ot much for this set up. is theri a fix for it a fan or somethin, and how might i go about solving this problem

The 4200 on 8 cells shouldn't pull too many amps unless it is overgeared. Is this the setup you were using on the MGM 80amp, and now the 60amp? If so, how is the 60amp doing? Using a fan will help some.

i'm using the stock pinon for the t4, its a 20 tooth pinion and a some where aroun a 89 main gear. should i gear it higher?
the 60 seemes to be doing alright but im new to this setup and the programming has been nurveracking. howerver it is very fast and has power to boot. |
I would suggest gearing down a little. If the controller is thermalling, gearing higher will make it worse.

I have the windows cut out on my body for more ventelation. You would do this the same way as you would for a NITRO truck. It works great. Keeps the temps lower. The body I actually run is from atomix (I think). The windows are a seperate piece of lexan so you have nice clean cuts around the body. It's not a hack job and looks good. The bodys are cheap the graphics are pre-painted. Not the best but great for trashing up.

What batteries are you running? That can make all the difference, after cycling and recharging my old batts a few times on one of these new chargers it performed worlds better, and ran a lot coolerr (the whole system). I'm going to try the gp 3700's today.. Personaly, I think you should of ran the MGM 80, it's only $10 more! But, the 4200 should only peak at around 55 amps. I'm guessing that you're gearing is off. I'm not a t4 guy, but i run 19/86 in my xxx-t.

im running 8 3300 unmatched gp evo 3 cells that i got fro mike. i might try cycling them but they are almost brand new about 6 days old sense i built the pack.
another issue im having is simmilar to on to another post, if i have my batteries at full charge and do a quick manuver like backward then quick fowared as to do a whelle the controleer shuts off and beepes at me a few times before it will rest and run agiain. the manuel dont lend much info on a problem like this other than to much current draw |
Mine does that maybe once a run too, I just let it slip though. well the batteries definitely aren't the problem, so its go to be gearing. Do you know what the ambient temperature outside is too? Since running a truck in 95 degree heat is bound to make things a tad warm.
|
yeh its 95-98 ish so the pavement is probably alittle warm too. went and ran it again at lunch and it over heated again, but after cooling down it was just fine. maby if its a gearing should i go to a 19/86 like mentiond above or something mor along the lines of 17/87.
|
I would drop the gearing a little as suggested. 95 degrees is hot, especially if you are running it on the pavement. I seldom run when the temps are so high(unless there is a race!). Drop a tooth or so on the pinion and you should be back in the game.
