Charge time 2S vs 3S?
I'm in the process of buying either maxamps 4200 2S packs or 3100 3S packs. Both should have similar watt-hour totals, but would there be any charge time differences? My charger is the Hyperion EOS0606i AC/DC balance charger and has a recommended maximum charge rate of 1C.

I'm going to take a stab at this, If I'm wrong some one will correct me.
a 2Cell 4000Mah battery will charge in the same time as a 3Cell 4000Mah battery. If you were to charge those at 1C, then it would be 4Amps. (1C for a 2000Mah would be 2Amps etc, etc...) So the MAH is how long the power will last in the battery, and that is what you are "charging" back into the pack. Does that make sense. |
Yup, that's right. Charge time is a function of charge current and battery capacity.
The only time battery voltage is a consideration is if the charger in question has a low-ish power limit, which would limit the charge current if the voltage X current exceeded it. 2s 4000mAh should be charged at 4A. Time to charge is ~1hr. Max charger power required is ~30w. 3s 3100mA should be charged at 3.1A. Time to charge is ~1hr. max charger power required is ~40w. Both scenarios are well under the power limit of even the smallest chargers... |
Thanks guys, that's the info I was looking for.
