1515/1y on 5s or 6s ?
I have a Neu 1515/1y (2200kv) in an e-revo I want to run 5s or 6s in it , is there any drawback to going up in voltage ? I assume heat is prob the big factor, anything else?.....will 5s or 6s work ok with the 1515/1y ? I see plenty of 5s but what about 6s...am I insane to want to run 6s...

Neus can easily handle 40krpms+, so I wouldn't have a problem with either voltage. Heat shouldn't be a problem if geared right IMO. Don't forget, you'll onyl hit max rpms if you stay on the throttle. With typical bashing, you hit WOT fairly rarely.

Brian,
So if I gear for 45mph (40/17) will that be too speed geared for bashing and overheat? Also would 6s be so much I could hardly control it ? I do want it to be reasonably driveable...not too inasne ....I am on 4s now ....would you reccomend 5s or 6s ? Thanks |
lol, you wanna run 6s on a 1515 motor spinning at over 40krpm and you want to be able to control it?? That's a lot of power there! Figure a conservative 100A on 6s is almost 3HP, and the torque at the wheels will be quite high as well.
Seriously, geared for ~45mph, it should work very well. In my high speed project thread, Mod Man ran his 15xx Nue to over 55k rpm and it ran fine. And that was geared high! |
I last question when buying lipos does freshness of the pack matter alot, like if i buy a flightpower pack from tower? Hummm 6s sounds like fun... if geared for speed like above will it have plenty of power at slower speeds?

hummmmm maybe I should try 5s I want it drivable within reason......having insane power is good up to a point....

I would recommend 5s on that motor, 6s may be a bit much. I ran a Big Maxximum (same kv) on 6s for a while in a 12 lb truck and it was insane. I have since switched to a Neu 1515 2.5D on 6s for bit more "tame" driving.

If you want to control it you may want to give it a power system that less powerful than the average chain saw...not 1.5X more powerful lol...
|
Yep, I'd also recommend rethinking 6s if control is part of the equation... I'm putting 2100kv on 4s lipo or 5s A123 geared right at 35 in my latest update of an E-LST... probably a fair bit heavier than an erevo but should be plenty powerful.

I will go with a 5s esp since its a 300 dollar battery and I want some control....backflipping at 10% throttle fun wears off quickly I want it usable ...
|
Don't forget that you can always reduce the start power in most ESCs if it's too much. And that will increase runtime. Also, higher voltage will increase runtime for a certain speed and motor because you aren't in the throttle as much. But, I also think 5s is more reasonable for your needs.
