Max Amps 6000/7.4V/2s (I know, this is the FIRST thing I'm going to upgrade)

I received all this brushless conversion gear today for my Revo 3.3 - almost better than Christmas - and unfortunately I leave for a 3-week business trip tomorrow. Luckily I'm driving, so all my gear will be in the trunk and I'll piece it together in the hotel.

One last question I had before starting the conversion was whether or not I needed a BEC? My intentions WERE to use the existing receiver pack, but that might have been my naive "noob-ness" clouding sound judgment. I will eventually convert to a BEC, but for the sake of getting this monster together, I wanted to keep it in there.

Unless there is no where to put the receiver pack in the conversion I don't see why you couldn't use it. Just disable the MM bec.

Thanks for the info. I need to disable (cut) the red wire right? Now, when I convert to the BEC, that is the same red wire that I need to leave disabled correct?

You don't need to cut the wire. If you look closely at the plug it's in, you can pick up the plastic tab holding it in place with a pick tool or other sharp instrument. While you have the tab picked up, just slide the pin out of the connector. Then you can simply heatshrink or tape the pin. This way, you have it available to plug back in for future use if need be (like going to 2s in a different vehicle or something).

Or just use a short servo extender and go back to violence...

FYI, the Tekno battery tray was designed to still be able to use our nitro battery box (TKR1002) for just this situation. You may need some extra screws and such. A BEC is better (less weight, more consistent voltage), but if you have the Tekno battery box for the nitro Revo, you can use that for now.

Update on Conversion - Help...
 

Hey everyone, sitting in the hotel room working on my Revo 3.3 BL conversion and I ran into an issue removing the flywheel. Are there any secrets to removing this thing, besides firing up my dremel and sawing something off?

Also, I found the Tekno conversion throttle servo mount to be extremely difficult to screw on. Is this normal? I used the same screws that were holding the original box on the left side (looking down at the truck).

To get the flywheel off of the nitro engine you just need to make sure the nut is off of the main shaft and then give the back of the flywheel a little whack or 2 with a plastic handle of a screwdrver and it should pop off. There is a taper bushing that it fits onto that holds it in place so tight. Aall it takes is to just budge it and then it comes right off.

Can't help you on the tight screw part... I dont have the Tekno kit.

Thanks for the help. I'm having a difficult time getting the nut off that holding the flywheel on. I think it's a matter of not having the right tools.

The best way I have found to get the nut off is a deep socket wrench that fits the nut. (cant remeber the size off the top of my head) and a crank shaft locking tool for the motor. But if you dont have the crank shaft locking tool then a fly wheel wrench will work and if you dont have the fly wheel wrench then in a pinch big pair of pliers on the flywheel will do the job top get the nut off. I would wrap the flywheel in a rag before using the pliers on it though. just to make sure you dont make to bad of marks in it with the pliers.

Thanks. I thought of the socket idea (it's 8mm) and of course I find out I needed a DEEP socket when I got home - DAMN! I will take this set back to the store and get the correct one. To lock the flywheel in place, I followed the advice of one of the threads here and jammed a toothbrush in the hole where the carburetor was.

Another question: is a "failsafe" device like the one I have linked below an adequate replacement for a BEC. It seems to me that they are both one in the same. I understand the BEC provides power to certain components (servo, ESC?) but couldn't those just get powered from the car battery? My main concern is that the truck stops when the juice runs out.
