Is a revo 2.5R good for brushless conversion?
 

well heres my story. i got back into rc a few monthes ago. Then i went and got a 3905 emaxx and love it. i was going to brushless it but read somuch about the e revo and didnt want to loose the waterproof so i decided ot buy one. My friend who always hasto have best of the best said he had bought a revo played with it twice and got sick of it and said 150 for it minus engine and exhaust. so i bought it figuring it would handle much better at high speed than the e-maxx. My main question is since i am on a budget is it a good idea? is it really that much better than a max? I checked on tower and it will cost me about $70 to get all the 3.3 chassis stuff. Is it worth it? is the difference between the 3.3 and 2.5r that big? Or shuld i just give my friend back the truck and spend the money on modding the max? Sorry to ramble on and thanks in advance for any answers.

The Revo has a better suspension setup that a Maxx, is more durable, more stable, lower CG, less money to upgrade (for comparable strength), and IMO just looks cooler.

You could get some of the 3.3 stuff on Ebay for cheaper, and I would reccommend doing so because the extra length really helps with stability (and reducing wheelies).

The 2.5 is fine - no reason to make it a 3.3 - The extra length does help with batteries but if you go single servo you'll have no issues.

You can get an extra 20mm with the extended rear arms...

At the begining, i had a 2.5 but i've bought a 3.3 chassis for $30.00, NYB:wink:

I have no issue with 2 x 3s2p maxamps 4200 and have lots of room free with the 5000mah enderland packs...

I did do the single steering servo mod though.

I gave away FREE on pay it forward my 3.3 chassis - didn't want to buy new bodies and have a 2.5 titanium skid...

so i the 8XL a good enuph motor? i was readin on rc universe that its not
but i though its what most people run
also i was thinking of the tekno kit but i want to use the mechanical brake
since it has it anyway. thought? ideas?

you can use the mechanical brakes with the Tekno kit without a problem. I don't think you can use reverse if you do that though.

MM and 8xl is a very popular budget setup, and should serve you quite well.

You can use reverse and the mechanical brakes with the Tekno kit. It works just like a nitro Revo.

Go with the 10xl, it will perform better for you and stay cooler.

Is there anything else besides the chassis needed to upgrade to 3.3?

The chassis brace that goes on the motor mount area, it really helps eliminate any flex in that area and keeps gear mesh aligned really well. You also need a longer front driveshaft, I beleive it's the same one that goes on the rear but not sure. That should be it.
I wouldn't go with the 10XL on 4s, it would be too slow. My 9XL is almost too slow, I put in the wide ratio tranny set to get back some top end. Everything runs pretty cool though, so it's nice not to worry about it. The 8XL is fine too, you'll get tons of power, just a little harder on your controller and batteries but nothing they can't handle. You might also consider an 11L on 4s, that's what going in my Revo soon and it should keep the other gear just as cool but have more top end compared to the 9XL. Good luck and keep us posted.

I forgot the steering link:oops: But you don't have to have the tranny case unless you're going to add rear brakes, and you don't need those unless you're going to add the center diff.
