what pinion for a steel spur

im working on a making a bomb proof bl monster truck and im just wondering what pinion material should i look for to use with a steel spur?

You will need a hardened pinion gear to last any length of time on a steel spur gear. The steel pinions I have can be case hardened(I may try to do a few of these myself in the near future). Without treatment, they only last for a handful or so of battery packs.
Welcome to the forums, also!

Thanks!:D ya i probably wont do a steel spur its much cheaper to replace a $5 dollor spur then a $10 dollor pinion plus the down time ill have to wait for it to arive. thanks for the reply

Ja, steel spurs are unwise, IMO. I can imagine the metall filings wound be annoying, too. This is something for nitro cars, at least they have no strong magnets around.

I also read somewhere that steel pinions on steel spurs create radio interferance, don't know whether its true or not.

Not necessarily, but potentially. Any metal to metal is conducive to causing radio interference.

I was running a steel pinion/spur, that snapped the shaft of my Hacker C50.
The teeth on the pinion parted company, and jambed up in the spur...............I found out the hard way.....:o

A hardened pinion gear would be necessary to avoid the "munching" you experienced!

He tells me now  ;)

I now have one of These ....A kind of fit and forget spur, well worth it.

Agreed! The strobe setup works very well. I have them on all my electric maxx type monsters.

Mike, can you get the Ofna Ultra LX centre diff that takes those 51t plastic spurs ? and can you get the Delrin spur to fit aswell ? if so i'd like to order one please.... ideally i'd like the centre diff, the diffmount hardware & atleast 2 x delrin or plastic spurs...

Do i need to shoot you a mail ?

Cheers

Andy
