Either way will work; I've done both. Once you mod the revo tranny (lock into 2nd, gear, do the FOC, remove 1st gear), it is lighter than the maxx tranny, and already has a solid slipper setup right out of the box. The maxx tranny needs a strobe setup, steel idler gears, etc. The Revo tranny also sits lower and allows a lower motor mounting position. The only downside (I guess) to using the Revo tranny is that the motor is on one side and the batteries are (usually) on the other. So weight balance may be a little tough.
