You can run it, but it's possible that you'll have problems with cogging on it. For some reason, most Novaks are not real happy on MM ESC's from what I've read. However, there is a very long thread on rctech.net where a guy has been using a Novak 4.5R motor on a MM ESC for a while now with mixed results. It certainly won't hurt to try it. If you try and it doesn't work well, before you give up, be sure you exhaust all the options in programming as far as start power/timing/punch control.
